powdered sugar and potassium nitrate works best when firing it without melting them together. The powdered sugar is so fine that it can be lighted directly easily and create a better smoke cloud.

you can melt the potasium and the sugar and put in a coke can and the put some matches on top of the mixture and then ignite then it will burn preatty well
