Afghanistan? People like Osama Bin Laden where recruited by the United States as proxy force to wage a insurgency against the Soviet Union and their proxy Afghanistan forces. The CIA mounted this
operation knowing full well that these islamic 'freedom fighters' could not be counted on for
containing their struggle too just Afghanistan. Fastforward to present day and yesterdays 'freedom fighters' are todays 'terrorist. They call this effect as 'Blowback'. Thanks to US and
far right conservatives like Ronald Reagan,Casper Weinberger we have our present day war on terror.

I don't think people realize what a disaster for the world in general and the Muslim world in particular were the conquests less than a century ago by the Nejdi Saudis of the Hijaz (giving them credibility in the Muslim world) and of the Eastern Province (giving them the oil money to promote their perverse Wahabi doctrines around the world).
