I had made same concept pen guns
I find 4mm rubber band to be more elastic and carry more energy. The skewers projectile works for only short range but be comes ineffective after 5-6 feet with drift. I recommend using coffee straws tipped with toothpicks hold in place with tape. That way they fly much faster and is extremely accurate.
