i'm a mandarin chinese and i speak quite some korean
some evidence shows that this is a chinese mochery of n. korea
something that came into my mind:

1. the dictator is kim il-sung, kim jung-il's father
2. the mandarin the army guy spoke in the beginning was messed up on purpose with weird pronunciations that sound like korean and the characters are like martian korean which make use of the shape but not exactly the right way of forming korean characters
3. the actors have typical chinese face (chinese, koreans and japanese usually can tell themselves from the other two by looking at the face shape)
4. LOOK AT THE GUYS BEDROOM WALL: the 45-degree-tilted red square posting is 99% the traditional chinese posting for chinese new year which means "forture or happiness" (usually ppl post it up on the wall or door at new year and keep it on there for a whole year). also look at the air-conditioner, which is a very common way of cooling in chinese homes. now i live in a warm city in north america, where ppl rarely install air-conditioner like that for summer.
5. though some ppl think this is in north korea, probably no one thinks this was actually shot in north korea. because north koreans will get killed if they make fun of their leaders, like in china several decades ago, NOT NOW. also as far as i know, it might be hard for them to get even a little chubby like the male actor, also, regular homes cannot afford air-con.

I am a chinese and lived in China for 24 years. I can tell u, they r much opener than they was. I often talked with friends about politics back in China and complained about CCP. No problem as long as you don't spread your ideas.
