This was the crash at the Paris Airshow. The Pilot being unfamiliar with fly by wire made a screw up. There were only crew on board, all were killed!

the first ever computer controlled landing on a commercial airliner. It has been shown on several Discovery and Reality TV shows, and it occurred because of the failure of the computer to land correctly. It locks the pilots out of the cockpit controls.

Remember that part with the helo trying to tow the boat? What idiot thought a helo that small could TOW a boat? Now lifting it out of the water and flying it through the air is different, but towing? Obviously gonna flip.

Also, from all these crash videos, stunt pilots must be well trained in the use of their ejector seats, as it seems to be something all stunt pilots will need several times in their lives ;)

The idiot pilot put the plane in Landing Configuration for a lowspeed low altitude pass then tried to open the throttles and climb out too late thus confusing the onboard computers.

Sad story that.

That crash is well documented, it was all over the news when it happened in '88. There were people on board as mentioned but it wasn't a commercial flight. As part of an airshow, the public could pay and take a short flight on the then-new A320. Whether the crash was due to mechanical failure, as claimed by the pilot, or pilot error, as claimed by Airbus, is still a matter of debate.

The enquiry following the accident was allegedly deliberately sabotaged by Airbus moles working for the enquiry board who had switched black boxes in a move to cast the blame on the captain, so as to not have the accident hamper A320 sales. At least that's what the captain claims. But the captain, a test pilot for Air France, had a reputation for carrying an oversized ego and a tendancy to blame his errors on others. I believe he was eventually fired by Air France, but not over this specific incident.

I guess we will never know the truth.

This accident happened on june 26th 1988, and involved F-GFKC, a brand new Airbus A320-111 (22 flighthours and 18 landings), and this took place on Mulhouse -Habsheim Airport.
At the time of accident, the aircraft carried 130 passengers and 6 crewmembers, and 3 passengers were killed in the accident.

The crew had no intention of landing here, as this was a short runway intended for light aircraft, but was making an approach and a lowpass in "dirty" configuration.
