(S.E.P) How To Make Up To 20 mins Of Bright White Light From A Pencil, Perfect For Emergency Break Down And Survival Situations, I Hope This Helps Someone Someday, Definatley Worth A Watch (A ShootingEggs Production)
I've never seen this done before and I'm surprised just how much light is produced. Nice solution!
By HouseholdTech 1184789465 Reply Spam [+56] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI really like the ingenuity here. I just realized that Macgyver must work with you guys. Tell him "Hello" for me.
By RESDEP 1184858049 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethey ARE the real ones!
Keep upp de good spirit !
Good idea and worth metacafe price !
By hunt-pimedusest 1185299388 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThose of you who say ''why not just use a torch?'' this vid is OBVIOUSLY for situations where you dont have one in your car
Those of you who say ''just attach a torch bulb to the wires'' If you had a torch you wont need to do this!
Those of you asking''how can you do this in the dark?'' you can set it all up with the interior light inside your car, the point of the vid is to produce light in area like the engine etc WHERE THERE IS NO LIGHT....
Just had to get that off my chest... dumb people annoy me :-)
EXCELLENT VID SHOOTING EGGS 5*****
if you got an interior light working why not use the bulb out of it?
1. wont set fire to anything
2. wont burn out
3. wont create smoke
4. still got pencil at then end
Well, if you happen to carry around a multitude of resitors, and a voltage tetster so you know how much voltage the bulb can handle, your plan would be great. The battery of your car puts out way over the amount needed to instantly blow out the filament in the bulb.
The genius in this plan is that the lead receives enough electricity lights up and burns brightly.
most of all the bulbs in your car run on 12v
...hence the 12v battery...
heres your sign!
The reason this video receives such criticism is simple. It is a matter of presentation. If it were done in a Bill Nye Science Guy manner or a Jackass style 'Hey look what happens when I connect a pencil lead to a car battery', then it would be fine. The problem is believing it to have a practical application outside of a MacGyver episode. Seriously, don't worry about stocking up on pencils or ripping out your speakers. Just buy a damned flashlight.
By OGRastamon 1194385128 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMy lead breaks in half
By Maverick22 1186469863 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeold light bulbs were made out of graphite which is the same stuff a pencil is made out of
By dylan55555 1185417724 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenow it makes more sense..
(even thought it should be obvious that graphite is just another metal like tungsten)
This is why a flare is always nice too,
Anyways, thats a cool video, good for signaling as well, but its short lasting, and just so you all know
when you use ANYTHING that gives off heat or electricity (even static,) and gives a good amount (Not like a cell phone ringing which gives off a bit of energy) you have an instand flamethrower in your hands since that sparks off the gas and in the tank, FLAMES!!!
P.S. With some experimentation. you can indeed replace a tungsten wire with pencil lead, it would only last for several minutes though
This case its not only for damaged car on dark, the idea is to torch from panicle , it's may let you produce it for other stuff, but please take extremely care not to short cut the wire to avoid battery explosion.
By shanyob 1185842336 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBut.... the light is up to 20 minutes with difficulties to prepare the pencil light which approximately prepared another 20 minutes....
By abana 1185173253 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThere lying. they lit the lead with a lighter
By MyArcadeMallCom 1216576435 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow the hell do u see what ur doing if u need a flashlight in the first place?
By will454 1191817230 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeburning lead this way is very toxic, look it up.
By YouGotLinks 1185015993 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits called a pencil lead, but there is no lead in it, its carbon and graphite...
By ishotjrinthehead 1185104007 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveToxic? Not this lead....it only contain carbon and graphite. Next time be sure you know the difference between the iron in yr food suppliments and the iron found in your junk yard. Anyway, ...gotchya!! No hard feeling but your remark was funny.
By Emac1967 1185868649 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits not lead for real but graphite, which is a form of carbon.
By truthhunter 1191110184 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt seems the fool is you lol, the voltage is the same but there is a lot more aperage coming out of a car battery than the lights inside the car can handle. They WILL burn out instantly (just try it if you don't believe me)
By cornflaker 1208949068 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits not lead, its graphite, i am not sure graphite is not toxic, but i know its not lead.
By pratfall 1189552198 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removebut very very cool trick, 5 stars
By lordfalcon 1192550772 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFantastic! I will make sure to keep a pencil in the car at all times!
Amazing how much light is produced.
you could make sure you keep a torch. the pencil is a good idea if you have forgoten to keep a torch but if your going to make sure to keep a pencil, you may aswell keep a torch
By savage_dog 1184928741 Reply Spam [+8] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhy dont u make sure u keep a mini flash light in the car at all times dont u think it'll be more useful ?
By u got cought 1184995152 Reply Spam [+5] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSomeone wrote: "I'll be sure to keep a pencil in the car at all times." How about keeping a flashlight (torch) instead? I wish this trick worked with pens, I've got tons of those scattered about, but you'd be hard pressed to find a pencil anywhere, even in my house!
Thanks for showing this, though, I always like having one of these tricks handy...
Why dont u just keep the torch instead ???
By screx 1185608559 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesimple, but really clever
By deepdoug 1185102555 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveActually they used a similar method to create light in the movie "Little Monsters". In that movie they use a few pencils, some wire, and an old fashioned wall-mounted telephone. The trick with the telephone was the fact that antique ones required you to crank the crank in order to generate power and charge up the capacitors so that you could talk to the operator and have them connect you to the person you wanted to call.
Anyway, it's rather surprising that a silly kids film full of fantasy worlds would have proper science used as a plot point. In fact it's science that most adults wouldn't even know.
if you had this much shit in your car, surely you had a fucking flashlight you stupid fuck. BUY A FLASHLIGHT! they even have the "jackoff" kind now that take no batteries! PREPARE DIP WAD! save this trick for your latest date rape...loser. FIRST!
By smartypants4 1213427595 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDo we have any pencils??? Looks pretty hot!

By Zttman 1211199683 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenever came to my mind, no offense, i believe its right that in complete darkness will be very hard to break a pencil this way, its even hard at daylight!! and the battery comments. But ideas like this one are always useful and I give you five stars :-)
By smart an funny 1205982003 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThats real cool and all but by the time you fix your car your battery will probably be dead... :(

By bitboy3546 1188423910 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI like the idea no offence, but am i supposed to find my pencil, open it, cut the led into 1 inch sections, find some wire, and connect it to the battery, in the dark.. that alone is gonna need 20 mins, buh it's a fun idea
that was an excellent job
can we do with a small batteries instead of car batteries
it could help someone
By mohammadoky 1188209444 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeextracting pencil graphite is hard. slipttign a pencil like that is not easy. but its is a very cool vid
By KnapW0n 1187653898 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNice music back there......what track is it and by whom?
By farrukhahmed 1187588176 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedo you have a reliable way to cleanly split a pencil down the middle like that if you're doing this without having prepared materials (like a knife or something) beforehand? (i mean, if you had the foresight to bring a knife and pencil for this, you might as well have brought a flashlight)
By schmiggen 1187568026 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIF its pitch black, HOW the F**K can you SEE to wire the lead to the car battery.
Best option ( if you have one) is to use your mobile/cell phone illuminated face
this is really great for igniting fireworks (not remotely but still far away) I would still need to know if it will work with some smaller battery like 9v
By Notn4 1186787588 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHow do you come up with this stuff?
By Kegan 1186778440 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI tried this and it doesnt work :(, all it did was exploded in my hand. Very dangerous! Luckily i was wearing saftey glasses! Cool video though.

By nicktrela 1186303293 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDo not breath the fumes that the pencil lead puts off !! when you burn graphite like that the fumes are TOXIC and will damage your lungs !
By natural-light 1186114098 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removey not have a cell phone with you and a portable charger and just turn on the flash of the camera?
By alex-cy 1185969014 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou will fuck your battery, all you are doing is shorting out the battery so when you come to start the car there is a good chance it will be flat.

By Johnnnn 1185273181 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI wonder if after fixing the tyre with this light then the battery is too flat to start the engine
By ibatubowl 1185255386 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelead fume is toxic
By siulobo 1185255293 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePencil lead is made of graphite, which is conductive, but not just plain graphite, it's pressed graphite dust, sometimes with some softener paste, for the softer leads. I'd have to say this wont work with any pencil, the very soft lead will just smoke itself out, while the harder leads will probably just crack from the heat, so don't rely on your pencil, better get one of them lighters with LED in your glove box; it shines brightly and if not enough you can start a fire with it, like make a torch of your underwear or something.

By Alex Da Gr8 1185152451 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei tried to do this with a 9v battery for fun and just got a bunch of smoke. I was also using a heavier gauge wire and i think that might have caused the problem... besides that, very cool!!!
