(S.E.P) How To Make Up To 20 mins Of Bright White Light From A Pencil, Perfect For Emergency Break Down And Survival Situations, I Hope This Helps Someone Someday, Definatley Worth A Watch (A ShootingEggs Production)
I've never seen this done before and I'm surprised just how much light is produced. Nice solution!

Those of you who say ''why not just use a torch?'' this vid is OBVIOUSLY for situations where you dont have one in your car
Those of you who say ''just attach a torch bulb to the wires'' If you had a torch you wont need to do this!
Those of you asking''how can you do this in the dark?'' you can set it all up with the interior light inside your car, the point of the vid is to produce light in area like the engine etc WHERE THERE IS NO LIGHT....
Just had to get that off my chest... dumb people annoy me :-)
EXCELLENT VID SHOOTING EGGS 5*****
if you got an interior light working why not use the bulb out of it?
1. wont set fire to anything
2. wont burn out
3. wont create smoke
4. still got pencil at then end
Well, if you happen to carry around a multitude of resitors, and a voltage tetster so you know how much voltage the bulb can handle, your plan would be great. The battery of your car puts out way over the amount needed to instantly blow out the filament in the bulb.
The genius in this plan is that the lead receives enough electricity lights up and burns brightly.
most of all the bulbs in your car run on 12v
...hence the 12v battery...
heres your sign!
electrical charge through resistance.
The measurement to pay attention to in this instance is amperage.
In this case, the problem with just using an interior light is that there's nothing to stop the battery from pushing >=50-80A to the bulb. As such, a regular bulb would fry almost immediately. The graphite works because it shorts the connection and releases the excess energy as light and heat (somebody can correct me on this, but I believe the word is 'oxidizes').
In a regular bulb, the filament is so small that it would melt from the amount of current trying to bridge the gap between + and -...and, possibly worse, could cause the battery to short since the contacts are so close together on a bulb (battery short ~= battery boom).
if the bulb would blow or the battery would short out it would not be in the car. the wires that power it int. light have the same amps and volts that came from the battery to begin with test it with a voltage tester at the light then at the battery there the same. i would now i a m an electrician and a mechanic, certified in both.
By brewsterfrank2001 1238059030 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveHave you ever heard of OHMS law ? V =I X R.Lets take for instance your comment about an interior light. The average resistance of an interior light bulb in a car is 3 ohms using ohms law I = VR the current flowing in circuit is 4 amps not 50-80 as you have stated. This video is extremely reckless in sugesting that this is an alternative solution to using a torch if someone were to accidently short the speaker cables as used in the video they could get severly burned or explode the battery,if you look closely at one of their demostrations you can see the speaker wire glow white. This wire is probally carring about 30 amps thats was never designed for and if it takes 20 mins to change a tyre you battery is dead anyway.
By sparkey1 1233929668 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe reason this video receives such criticism is simple. It is a matter of presentation. If it were done in a Bill Nye Science Guy manner or a Jackass style 'Hey look what happens when I connect a pencil lead to a car battery', then it would be fine. The problem is believing it to have a practical application outside of a MacGyver episode. Seriously, don't worry about stocking up on pencils or ripping out your speakers. Just buy a damned flashlight.

By dylan55555 1185417724 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removenow it makes more sense..
(even thought it should be obvious that graphite is just another metal like tungsten)
graphite=carbon
By cryptographrix 1231050083 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis is why a flare is always nice too,
Anyways, thats a cool video, good for signaling as well, but its short lasting, and just so you all know
when you use ANYTHING that gives off heat or electricity (even static,) and gives a good amount (Not like a cell phone ringing which gives off a bit of energy) you have an instand flamethrower in your hands since that sparks off the gas and in the tank, FLAMES!!!
P.S. With some experimentation. you can indeed replace a tungsten wire with pencil lead, it would only last for several minutes though
This case its not only for damaged car on dark, the idea is to torch from panicle , it's may let you produce it for other stuff, but please take extremely care not to short cut the wire to avoid battery explosion.
By shanyob 1185842336 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBut.... the light is up to 20 minutes with difficulties to prepare the pencil light which approximately prepared another 20 minutes....

By Emac1967 1185868649 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeits not lead for real but graphite, which is a form of carbon.
By truthhunter 1191110184 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt seems the fool is you lol, the voltage is the same but there is a lot more aperage coming out of a car battery than the lights inside the car can handle. They WILL burn out instantly (just try it if you don't believe me)
By cornflaker 1208949068 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegraphite isnt toxic. pencil makers havent used "lead" in pencils for a long time. if pencils were toxic, i'd be dead. i have had a pencil point stuck in my hand for the past 5 years. if graphite were toxic, it would absorb into my bloodstream and kill me from the inside out. it's not though. the reason for this is because when you write with a pencil it gives off minute specks of dust. if a whole school were to use pencils every day, all day, the district would be paying for the kids' deaths and the teachers. think about it. Okay yes lead is poison if ingested, inhaled, or absorbed. there is truth there, but my point being is its not toxic. try it out.
By Briguy9 1231445761 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit's graphite....i.e. carbon....i.e. produces CO, CO2, CO3, same as the car produces itself.
now, if it were actually lead (Pb), that'd be a whole diff story, with completely different results when you connect with speaker wire...something more like a heating element with very little light.
its not lead, its graphite, i am not sure graphite is not toxic, but i know its not lead.

nice!
Actually they used a similar method to create light in the movie "Little Monsters". In that movie they use a few pencils, some wire, and an old fashioned wall-mounted telephone. The trick with the telephone was the fact that antique ones required you to crank the crank in order to generate power and charge up the capacitors so that you could talk to the operator and have them connect you to the person you wanted to call.
Anyway, it's rather surprising that a silly kids film full of fantasy worlds would have proper science used as a plot point. In fact it's science that most adults wouldn't even know.
if you had this much S**t in your car, surely you had a F**king flashlight you stupid F**k BUY A FLASHLIGHT! they even have the "jackoff" kind now that take no batteries! PREPARE DIP WAD! save this trick for your latest date R**e loser. FIRST!

By siulobo 1185255293 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePencil lead is made of graphite, which is conductive, but not just plain graphite, it's pressed graphite dust, sometimes with some softener paste, for the softer leads. I'd have to say this wont work with any pencil, the very soft lead will just smoke itself out, while the harder leads will probably just crack from the heat, so don't rely on your pencil, better get one of them lighters with LED in your glove box; it shines brightly and if not enough you can start a fire with it, like make a torch of your underwear or something.

that this seems a bit like a carbon rod lamp? Not that this is a bad idea, but if you ever have to use it, make sure you DO NOT LOOK AT IT DIRECTLY. You will assuredly go blind. Carbon-rod lamps use a spark in an electric current jumping between two (uh, duh) carbon rods to create strong light.

Nice trick but very dangerous! The pencil lead is extremely hot. Nice thing to know is that this method was used in past to create lights instead of the now mostly used wolfram. Our teacher onces showed this to us, they are pretty light and it's fun to see. Also it's pretty nice to let the shell around it and sharpen both ends and then putting some power on it ;) Gives a bit of smoke and fire ;)
