  • nothing special

I'm not sure but I think it just searches for your IP provider, not the real address. Some times it shows different country which I know is wrong.

    • let me see...

i dosent search for you ip provider other wise its will show every thing in your own contrry plus then all the websites would have the same ip's... of course it shows a diferent country if you live in england and search for www.yahoo.com it gives you the server in america and of course thats where its going to be because its american company !!!!!!

  • Too much hassle

I agree with vade79x, you go through a lot of loops to get an IP, even a ping would suffice.

And pretty much a WHOIS database lookup would suffice for most websites:

Again, this isn't needed. tracert simply shows the route packets take to get to their destination, which is basically an unnecessary step for this. All you need is the 'nslookup' cmd to show the (destination) IP of the domain and plug it into the provided site in the video. Videos like these make for more confusion than help.

                • yes...

that is what it does... but the end information is is the same as your nslookup apart from tracert gives you more info there for making it better... i think... =D

                • No.

No...it doesn't, you are simply showing useless information for the given situation...you aren't using any of the information provided by traceroute for this, matter a fact...it just slows the process down by waiting for the traceroute to complete. It's like running a marathon when all you need to do is walk a couple feet.

Ok so your nslookup might give the info straight away but the end PRODUCT IS THAT IS DOES THE SAME THING ! u get the same ip !

                  End of discusion

You're just trying to come up with a reason for having made this video at this point...You're way is not a good exercise for learning / understanding as it's an obfuscated method of doing it, it's a bad example you must admit....c'mon

Its not it is doing what it says tracert = get the ip from a website... ok you my get the other locations of packets as they get sent by but... mayby people want to see that...

I'm really getting bored of the comments so look mayby your method of doing it is better or mayby my is, if your that in to it making a point justa make your self a video!

P.S: im not replying to any more of your comments if there just gonna be the same...

              • Hah deleted comment, so I'll say it agai...

You don't need traceroute for this, just use 'nslookup' to get the destination IP and plug it into that website, you don't need to see the route the packets take for this (which is what tracert does)...lame silencing me for informing, this kind of thing confuses people more than it helps.

              • ehm

so i trace 2 known IP adresses one from Sweden and one from my country and on BOTH of them, the "B" points at the center of the country FAR from where it really should be. I guess this ipgp just finds pings from different parts of the world to then get an approximate location (by checking pings you can check the distance approximately), but it is not very accurate and thus only gives the country and marks it on the center.

                Any other ideas?
