After surfing the net looking for a good and safe flash powder tutorial i came up empty handed. Almost all of the videos found A) Used an unsafe method such as putting the two components into a plastic bag and shaking it (this is dangerous because flash powder is static and shock sensitive) or B) made poor quality flash powder (notice how mine simply explodes even in the 25 miligram quanities that i test it in) Remember: dont try any of what you see in the film at home, it may not be legal in some areas.

  im actually very close friends with several pyrotechnicians, this is actually the standard method of making flash powder in the pyrotechnic field, its called the diaper method.

Over cautious for this mix...
It would take you a month to prepare a pound of flash that way. 11.2oz potassium perchlorate, 4.8oz powdered aluminum and a gallon size ziplock. Dump it in shake it up and you are done. Now if you are using potassium chlorate, red phosphorus, and aluminum, this is the way to go because that mix will blow if you look at it wrong.

While the concept is great, the technique you are using is not. You should have a larger piece of paper and lift the corners to roll the powders over one another till they are well mixed. The folding and rubbing together of the paper is not good, this is friction and with a less stable mixture (chlorate or sulfer based) you could have trouble.

Thinner paper such as newspaper works quite well for this, roll the powder by lifting the corners, never fold or crease the paper.

Just wondering what type of al powder you used? was it automized? or german dark al powder? as my flash powder burns very slow, and is hard to ignite.

  No you don't, there are ways to get it offline
  
  1. for Aluminum powder break open those e sketch they have Al powder inside
  
  For the perchlorate you could get those from Picolo petes, screaming cats, whistling petes etc...
  
  any other way to get Al powder is to mill aluminum foil for couple of weeks

  Is there any other types of ingredients other than pottasium perclorate, pottasium nitrate and aluminium powder which are hard to come by, and can 'cinnamon' be use as a subtitute of the ingredients above?
