The MRF was founded by melanoma patient Diana Ashby in 1996 and is now the largest independent, national organization devoted to melanoma in the United States. It raises funds for melanoma research, educates patients and physicians on prevention and treatment, and promotes awareness about the illness. Researchers and medical students may apply for grants from the foundation for projects in melanoma research.
