    And I'm referring to the black kid. The teacher was obviously not using the word to set an example for his students. It was said to nullify the value of the word, to counter the use of the word in the first place. People are to PC to notice good rhetoric when they hear it. And by the way, the kid most likely used the word out loud, he was just lying to save his tail. For him to call for a man to lose his job when the man did nothing maligious is truly ignorant.

    I've seen people use it to greet people and to joke around. It should only be used around with people you're friends with and without black people arond. But I have few black friends who are cool with the word nigga as if i'm greeting them. "What's up my nigga". But if you say this to people you dont' know and they're black, you better wish god to be with you. Generally, it is an offensive but it depends on how you use it. I rarely use the word unless my black friends are cool with it. But teacher saying nigga? and he's an honors english teacher? wtf. Person who studied English know well that nigga is a low-class word and should never be used. He should get fired for this. This is one of the reasons why I hate Mark Twain books.

  • I have first hand knowledge of a similar...

    I was visiting a school, where a black student, in an art class, said to his white teacher "I need some Nigger-Brown" she replied "you can't say that" he replied "No, Miss, I can, you can't."
    And that sparked a lively debate on taboo words, meanings etc, as it should have done in this case.
    If any student in that school, regardless of colour, uses the words Nigger, Nigga, Niggah, will they be suspended and punished for ten days? will they then have to undergo diversity training?
    I doubt it. This teacher is a victim of racial discrimination, he is being punished because of his colour. If a black teacher used the same term, no complaint would be made, no punishment incurred. Nigger is a common term within young black kids. It is against the law for a white person to use it. Discuss.

      Yes, I watched the whole video. And the point the teacher made is true. The 'forbidden' word is in everyday use amongst black people. My neighbour, who is from Trinidad, and is black, greets his brother with-"Hey, Nigger!"
      I don't think he's being racist.
      If you listen to rap music, you'll hear the term used often. If a black person can use it, then it is racist to condemn a white teacher for using it.
      Here, by the way, I live in a multi ethnic inner city area, and there's a lot of racism. The trinidadians say the jamaicans are 'dirty niggers', the jamaicans think other west-indians are ignorant savages, the pakistanis don't like the bangladeshis, and the sikhs don't want their daughters to speak to moslem boys... We all seem to get on alright, apart from the jamaican yardies who are busy shooting each other.
      Phredje is right. nigger is a descriptive term which was once the term preferred by black people. and black was insulting. language changes.
      The relevant thing is the intended meaning. Jew can be a proud statement of identity, from one person, and a filthy insult from another. We need to stop this witch hunt attitude to words, and work on what is really important, people's behaviour to each other.
      If the boy was misbehaving in school, and the word "nigga" was being used by pupils, then the teacher's use of it is acceptable. Sometimes teachers will use the slang of their charges, for various reasons, sometimes just to get a moment's shock, that makes the kids think.
      It is ridiculous to say the kid is in some way wounded. I wonder how often that teacher has had racist abuse against him? we grow up, we shrug it off. My neighbour laughingly calls me 'paleface' or 'White-boy', and I don't call the word police, instead, I chuck him the rake, and we continue tidying the garden together, and drink our beers.
