Apart from Temporary Internet folder and Windows Temp folder, Windows XP tends to create a folder called Prefetch. Locate this folder and delete all files in this folder. Don't worry, you can't damage Windows by removing these files. Any deleted files that Windows needs will be re-created automatically!

  • bad advice....

this is a myth, do a little more research on prefetching before telling people to delete. if you're at all concerned with boot speed, don't delete " layout.ini" it take's windows 3-5 boot's to rebuild it. if you're an average user, stay away from this. to post this as a space saveing tip, is horrible advice

    • Boot Times

Prefetching improves both Windows Boot and Application load times. Prefetching by default makes everything including your boot load as fast as possible. Layout.ini has NOTHING to do with boot. That it the file the prefetcher references during idle times to further optimize the process using the defragmenter. The NTOSBOOT-B00DFAAD.pf is what is referenced to optimize boot times. Leave them both ALONE! It only takes Windows 2 times to rebuild it completely however.

    • Agreed...

I was thinking the same thing when I watched this - he doesn't say what the files are for - just to delete them - makes me wonder if he's going to suggest putting a file (virus) into your computer to "eat up" files that are taking up space (starting with the operating system?)

      • are you idiot?

sorry about asking buy how can you say that deleting 7.41 MB (on my computer) can free up your disk? And also, it does more bad than good... Don't try that home, don't delete...what is in the "windows" folder shouldn't be deleted, 'cause you need these files if you want your system to work...
