My guess is he landed on grass for the same reason he started his takeoff rollout from grass....the runway is too short for that model.

Grass increases drag, faster to slow down this huge r/c plane! Plus, less damage if any parts hit the grass than hitting the hard runway.

As far as I know those things dont have brakes, so it would be using the surface to create friction and slow down. The grass has more friction than the nearby concrete. Cool model.
