By chongsboy 1189801134 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThey will burn your eyes out silly......You do not blink, and your eyes will not sting (eyes not pain sensitive to infrared) but it will BLIND you!! Causes same thing as staring long time at a welder with eyes not protected. Same as Snow Blindness. Your corneas will turn into a sticky GOO. Not Fun :(

By Noxxis 1195244718 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei have an old pair of 3D glasses for like some old 3D movie. there is one red and one blue layer (duh). if i over lap them, is that infrared vision?
what is the use of these anyways? does it help you see heat or something? i do not understand
Will this work as a replacement for the camera on the "DIY Night Vision" video?
Also, does it really make infrared light visible, or just make things LOOK like infrared?
a person's pupils will fully dilate to get enough normal spectrum light for sight, while the ratio of infrared light is much, much higher. A warning not to wear these goggles for more than a couple minutes would be advised.......but who is really going to put in all the effort to make the goggles and not use them for hours (in aggregate) over a number of months or years? Sorry, but this a video where you are putting people's eyesight at risk. I know it's not intentional, you put forth good effort in making it, but you are profiting from peoples eye damagel. :-(
Again, love your other videos.
i feel like a manchild again!
haha.
rad.
did you find these "gels" for $.50 each?

By banananose3 1186055995 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveGreat trick, I did it with the 4 Blue and 1 Red configuration and had tons of fun. But the horrible accident occured when I handed the goggles to my brother and he had accidentally glanced into the sun.
He went blind in a second he said. The way I had noticed that his cornea's were burned was because when he glanced at the sun he started screaming. But thanks for the trick and I'll play with them with caution!
Quit showing off your metacafe hat! lol
By Razorg606 1185937983 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree with some earlier comments. I don't think these would really let you see infrared light.
To test it, wear the goggles in a dark room, and press some buttons on a TV remote (which uses IR). Can you see any light when you press the buttons?
Also, a fun tip -- Take a digital camera into the dark room (no goggles this time) and aim the remote at the camera while pressing the buttons. The camera screen will probably show the light shining from the remote.
So then, you have also discovered a way to convert the lower energetic NIR to the higher energetic visible spectrum.
So for under 10 bucks you also break basic laws of physics! Now that IS cool :)
does just glancing at the sun for a second blind you, or do you have to stare for it to blind you?

Do you have any ideas on thermal vision? That would be awsome.
By wolverine19788 1231445069 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe instructions as given WILL DAMAGE YOUR EYES, even if you don't look at the sun. The dark plastic lenses will block all light except for near infrared and UV. Your pupils will dilate, and the UV will burn your corneas. Add glass lenses or sun glass lenses to the stack to block most of the UV.
By JosiahJohnston 1226169149 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei cant make it..........i KNOW I WILL LOOK AT THE SUN =(
By StupidStuff 1218740504 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt should not work well I think. As far as I know human eye is only sensitive to visible light, and if you filter out all visible light, you get DARKNESS...or some sort of darkness, because there is no exact borderline between hard IR and low frequency visible red light, and sensitivity to IR and deep red may differ from person to person, so it may work for someone but others.
BUT CCDs like those in your mobile are usually sensitive to IR up to 1000 nm, which is much more than your eye. So if you filter out ALL visible light, you will probably see nothing, but your camera will get true IR vision.
Thats pretty cool. Oh,and I like your hat. :)

By zanescott 1214679189 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePeople cant see infared. This is why we use nightvision with infared lights to enhance our vision with use of gadgets. Filters only filter out what we presently see.. which means you will see less.. otherwise with these goggles you would be able to find that shoe in the dark.. which isnt possible.. False information..

By Serenity878 1204253969 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIs because these goggles make your pupils open right up - your eyes are only weakly sensitive to IR - and by blocking out all the normal visible wavelengths, these goggles allow your eyes to open up and adjust themselves to maximum sensitivity.
I'd suggest not taking them off in a bright place either, as you'll find that uncomfortable until your eyes adjust back again.
i know what site you probably got these off, if he woulda made vid hed have had the money, whatever though, i made these years ago but never knew of metacafe =( IM POSTING MY VID!
