  • Disturbing, to say the least.

    She, being an oceanic research student, knew the danger of swimming in those waters while on her period. Sad but true, women have a disadvantage, as sharks have a sense for blood, that any tampon on the market today can’t mask from them.

      goe for a dip. Its a big swimming pool. Shark attacks are rare. And since you dont know much about the ocean, I would expect a comment like that. There arent any warning signs out there either.

    1: This was a SHOCK for this person! I mean think of that! You are swimming in the sea and suddenly you hear screaming. A Shark. You try to escape but the shark´s fast: 60 km/h!!!!! And then it bites of your leg! I think she thought she was dead!!!! :(

      Seen the original footage on a TV documentary. The girl survived the attack, at the time the docu was aired she was walking on crutches while having a prosthetic leg built and adjusted for her. If I recall well she was living in Seattle at the time.

    apparently sharks attack us cause we look like seals but she was wearing a swin suit so her bare legs were showing and seals dont have that coloured skin. sharks have been around for hundreds of years i think they know what a human looks llike now.

    Sharks aren't as bad as they seem. Shark attacks are really rare, and in this case, the poor girl happened to be swimming above the most dangerous, the White Shark. And yes, as someone already said, sharks were in this planet thousands of years before dinosaurs! Any other type of shark would only attack if provoqued or if you have bad luck. And is sad that people like this chinacockney think is good if we finish with all sharks. In that case, lets kill every living thing potencially harmful (including other humans which, I can assure you, are more often more dangerous than sharks)

    youll get bit. live in the woods eventually you will run into wolves or bears. go into the water eventually youll run into a shark or jelly fish (they are deadly too) go for a drive one day get into a deadly car accident. basically its too many people getting in too may places, eventually youll run into something that can or will kill you.

    Why do we put up with this S**t we (H**o sapiens) rule the world ..for better or worse .. but we do .... we got rid of all the animals that effected us some thousands of years ago ... and we still seem to survive without them ..... fisheries throughout the world are diminishing ... sharks eat fish ..so less sharks more fish .... and like one of the comments, which I totally agree with ..tell this poor girl about the odds!

  • This was on discovery last night...

    She did survive the attack....did lose her leg however she is able to get around with a fake leg these days. She eventually got married and seems to lead a pretty normal life. What she did say about that day was that she wasn't that strong of a swimmer was very tired and by the time people were yelling shark it was just 2 late

    you have a better chance of winning the lottery than being attacked by a shark. Great white shark attacks are some of the rarest you'ra more likely to get attacked in shallow water by a bull shark.

      NO sea creature, never mind a white shark, could survive in the sea waters that roll into my town: The Irish sea is freezing! I was pushed in off the rocks once by a 'good friend' and nearly turned blue !! I could'nt swim for the shock. Mind you i told a lie above: I said no sea creature could survive but i did see a crab about 6 months ago on the beach but even it looked cold ! I have more chance of being attacked by the dog next door with it's endless growls and snarls when i pass: it does'nt like me at all. I might throw it into the sea, that should be the end of it's attitude !!
