Optometrist Parker CO Dr. Michael Vaskesees glaucoma, cataracts and vision impairment as common eye care problems. Changes in vision should be monitored with annual eye exams. An eye examination of the optic nerve can detect the presence of glaucoma in addition to the pressure of the eye. Cataracts, affecting most adults in their early 50s can be removed by an ophthalmologist. Lasik eye surgery is not a treatment for cataracts; but is used to correct astigmatism, nearsightedness or farsightedness. Distorted vision can be caused by astigmatism or glaucoma. Medical issues should be ruled out before assuming a new prescription for eye glasses is all that is needed for restoration of clear vision. Macular degeneration erodes central vision, while glaucoma takes away the peripheral vision. Macular degeneration though also a cause of vision impairment, can be treated if diagnosed early. Prescription eye glasses or bifocals may be preferable for some eye care patients with an aversion toward contact lenses for easier reading.More videos can be seen with Optometrist Parker CO Dr. Michael Vaske at http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_
