    You can set the combo to anything you want on most of these things.......

      While this is true, the mark is still going to be on the number that is set as the combo. Just think of it as a notch in the locking mechanism. I tried this on my own briefcase, had my wife set a combo that I didn't know. I compared the marks on the left side to (which I did know) to the marks or lack thereof on the right. After getting the right lighting and knowing what I was looking for, it was a sinch. Whole process took 3-4 minutes (including messing with lights and a flashlight).
