The company I work for (YMCA) is starting a new survival course for infants and todlers. Here is a video that I was asked to put together to distribute to parents to convince them to enroll their children. The footage is amazing. These courses have saved babies from drowning all over florida
When the baby fell in and the next shot showed the baby still there, squawking, with the caption "5 minutes later," I almost laughed out loud. Am I the only one who found this darkly humorous?
All things considered, that looks like a remarkably vibrant, energetic, and good-natured little tyke.
This could be taken as educational by many, yet this video made us feel desperation the whole way through. And if you wanna keep your children safe, they have to be supervised any time they are near or in the water.
By Happy18 1186624448 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBUt true that is a helpful method
sporting the cash for that muyst b expensive but not nearly as much as your babies life 5 stars
Is it just me or does it seem freakin moronic to just let the child float there. Great you proved a child can float. Don't leave him there for five freakin minutes. Don't leave him there at all you bastard. I hope you burn in Hell for this.
By Thumbshot 1194164272 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove5 minutes later... the child died of hypotermia... The 2nd cause of death for children under 5.
By Nazroon2007 1192720962 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI can't believe the person filming this would allow a baby to cry for 5 mins. while doing a documentary! Did he want to see how long the baby would float? What was the purpose?

By cookie_monster 1187007782 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI can't believe you people...this is something to help you with your babies and you just take about how you you should keep your eyes on them..there is not one of you that can do it 24/7 just take the help and shut the hell up...damn ..a$$holes
By mistermoby 1186892075 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei agree with the others as a parent you have the responsability to watch your child 24/7 and make sure the child cant fal into the pool by covering it or making sure the door wont open that easily
By gigagamer 1187117973 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyea you can... if your gonna be busy, put your kid in a crib, a play pen, a bouncer, hand it to someone else, wear it in a sling, do something safe with your child. Yes, you can know where a baby is and what it is doing 27/7. I do it all the time.
By lysacid 1187588068 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelysacid..you just said it right there..your not watching your kid 24/7 ..simple..duhhh
By mistermoby 1188261278 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou must lead. People in general should be more self-reliant and what a great time to start at the infant stage. If you tell a child not to touch the hot stove, what is the first thing they do? Touch the hot stove. My son touched our wood burning stove once. After a little ice and Aloe, he never did it again.
By Cable Guy 13 1188251726 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCable Guy..I didn't know you was worried about your feet drowning..
By mistermoby 1188261399 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei am amazed that the babie could stay soo calm for soo long. but i totally agree with jennifer f. you should never assume your baby can do that and you should never leave your kid unattended.
By trulycanadian 1186603359 Reply Spam [+6] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei dont think many babies will stay calm that long in the water. they'd freak out and drown. how long would that baby actually be able to float and not get tired?
Besides, if you're so fucking stupid to let your kids out of your sight to fall in the pool for so long.. then you deserve to die and not have kids for your irresponsisbility.
Even people who watch their children carefully, could lose track of them just long enough for an accident to happen. Sometimes all it takes is turning away for just a second. If a child were to fall into a pool and was able to float on their back for even 30 seconds, that might mean the difference between life and death.
By pauliegone 1186707291 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removechildren under the age of 2 will instinctively hold their breath and lower their heartbeat when something like that happends.
but then again they should cover the pool or make the doors harder to open
All I"m saying if there is something out there to help you with your baby..like the gate and the cover..you should use it ..and I know no matter how hard a parent tries they cannot watch a baby 24/7 I know it you know it ..simple..
By mistermoby 1187210536 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI believe we shouldn't think about ourselves or our babies like they can only do what we're sure they can. Maybe we are wrong on wanting our babies watched 24/7 and maybe with so much attention they are going to grow up like babies, and for sure that won't be any safety nets holding them from drug dealers.
By wordslinger 1187916117 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI did not know that! A bit weird to leave the kid in water for 5 minutes though! He looked a little distressed. I'm sure he was fine though.
By Dannyboy501 1186601411 Reply Spam [+5] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethat kid is gonna have water traumar for the rest of his life
By V0RT3X 1186612615 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removesee it again and pay atention to how that guy comes to pick up the baby. He comes like that so the baby won't be traumatized. Offcourse one can never be absolutely sure of that.
Anyway, you reminded me of something funny... there is a psychological technique to cure phobias which is called... flooding.
I agree that babies should always be supervised, but wouldn't it be nice to know that if something like that should ever happened to your child, maybe while they are in the care of someone else, they could do that?
By tbus 1186879541 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI agree ...here is something to help people or at lease check into and all they do is dog it...i don't understand people sometimes..

By sharpsh00ter 1187528181 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIts Innovative, but that must be a lot of work. I wouldnt mind a lesson or two on how to float
By tanshizzle 1186854472 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveOk try this if you can get into a pool without a a lot of waves or people all you have to do is lay on your back don't be scared your lungs will have enough air in then to keep you up..try it, just do it in a pool first so you won't be so scared...
By mistermoby 1186899241 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeok what happen ????.do it in a pool by yourself at first hold your breath and lay back and don't get scared..just relax..honest you will float...and it could save your life someday...good luck..

By raiders00 1186631605 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI'm so sorry people don't get the point of this video.
I think it is an excellent video and if I had kids I would take them through the program. I was really impressed with the toddler that used the combination of swimming and rolling on his back. You taught him well.
thanks !so usefuland nice !
Exploitive of the infant. Leaving the child for so long floating- water probably seeped into the ears. Kids get ear aches so easy. Inidirectly cruel- it just takes a few more days for the ear ache to get festering.
By Xpedient 1206611911 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSomeone needs to call child protective services- that seems traumatizing and sick to do to a little tot. All to show that babies can sometimes float. For your next trick will you be giving him a knife and a flint and dumping him in the woods? I am tempted to call the Y to see if there is a real affiliation.

By NoFxOnE 1198892465 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveJust threw my little Danny in the pool like 15 minutes ago... but he hasn't got the whole, "floating-on-back" thing figured out just yet
what should I do?
If you payed attention, it is about an instructional course that TEACHES babies to do it.
By v78 1193829526 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei can translate what the baby was saying....
"o idiots stop filming and take me out of here!!!"
Hijos de la chingada.... que ganan con demostrar esto... que bueno que los niños no se ahogan...
pero que poca madre... dejar que los niños lloren para que ellos se diviertan
setup but are those people ok they are crazy put baby in the pool. then need to know the for only 2 sec papy can hold breath in the water and go in coma after that you cannot help them. this is srazy
By asmin 1188857025 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeall mammals can swim from birth, even knowing to hold their breath under water. all you have to do is put them fully sumerged in water fairly often, and then they dont forget, look it up, its true. Even monkey and Ele[phants can swim, there are a couple of things though that cant, i think Kangaroos are one of them...

By BLooD_Knight 1187387148 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThose were 5 agonizing minutes for me. Dont bring kids you cannot be responsible for 24/7. Ensure the pool door is locked or better still, dont have one at home. Ensure kids are watched and supervised ALWAYS. Those pretty fellows are to wonderful to toy with or allow them to throuh such a harrowing experience. Teach them for fun and not as an alternative life saving approach
By vexed9jaman 1187269221 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe length of time the child was in that pool seemingly alone was the longest agonizing i have had in recent times, no one should bring kids into this world if they are not responsible enough to keep watch or provide an alternative 24/7 and i mean just that.
I am gonna be careful where my kids go and what they do, and as a first step, no pool in the house and they cant go to friends unacompanied and watched for the duration of the stay. Perhaps i can teach them swimming someday, but it will be basically for fun, not for life preservation. Please parents, dont let your kids go through this agony.
that was kool man what alil cutie!!
By kuruptedGurl 1187177508 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeit isn't the ones being supervised that drown but the ones that, for whatever reason, become unsupervised. If there is a technique that can be taught to the young ones to self-preserve then there will be one less funeral due to a tired Mom dozing off for just a second.
By Cheeesehead 1187157477 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWOW 5 stars
By firsthaker 1186703967 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYes they can swim but what if the baby gets scared (like something touching them) trying to swim then struggles and drowns?
By Le Chiffre 1186623345 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeis never let them near the water alone. Swimming lessons are all right, but no one should ever assume they "drown-proof" their child.
By Jennifer F. 1186593910 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis isn't meant to "drown-proof" children. It's just another way to help protect them.
By pauliegone 1186611723 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis is true, i have a little brother that can be troublesome and energetic but he is always watched if not by me then by someone else in my family. we dont want to lose him, cuz hes cute :)
By 883772 1187113552 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI have heard that there have been cases where young children that knew how to swim have drowned in pools because they panicked when they fell into the pool.
By oldskoolVT 1186612584 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveMany adults that knew how to swim well have drowned, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't learn to swim at an early age. This is just another tool to help keep kids safe, but CERTAINLY not a replacement for common sense.
