One forceful kick. The poor guy will have to rest a few days :)
You talkin' to me? I said, you talkin' to me?
{crack}
wu twakwin nu nee? nu twaukin'...
{thud}.
...because you get your whole body twisting to produce the force. But, it's a very slow setup, and to get one off at that close range with no lead-in kick just shows how bad the guy in red was. Really, the guy in red should have been all over him the minute his opponent turned his back, but instead he just stood there, with his arms at his side, asking to get kicked in the head. Neither of these guys had even decent blocking or guards skills, which is common in lower-level Tae Kwon Do (which is what kind of match this looks like, as nobody is bothering to punch). Man, if I tried a tornado (jump-spinning roundhouse) on my Sensei (or even most of the other students) without SEVERAL setup strikes leading into it, I'd either eat his fist, wrap myself around his side kick or get swept off my feet. One of my Senseis got a good spinning round kick onto my left eye out of nowhere during a back-and forth exchange we were having in a sparring match, which hurt, but I still had my block up before it made contact (through my block - legs are strong) and barely got shaken... and it didn't stop my attack (which he still dodged, but then, he's a Sensei).
That guy in red needs to rest up, then learn how to keep his guard up, then learn how to block and counter-strike. Well placed kick by the blue combatant, but they both need some serious guard and blocking work. I don't think either of them would last long in my dojo, they don't block or set up well enough. But, I bet that guy in red is going to work on his blocking a bit more now!
He should quit Tae Kwon Do and learn something useful.
By oblivionwolf 1145825266 Reply Spam [+7] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removetae kwon do = korean?
sensei = japanese?
i agree with you entirely. i am a novice in taekwondo but i do love the tornado. i am a brown belt but i am superior to many higher belts. personally i wish i went to a more strict and better taekwondo place, but i still love it. i'd love to see you or your sensei in a video if you would post one. anyways good luck in your martial arts
By Leeroy Jenkins 1187418039 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat's all i could think of from the get go watching this.
"Where the fuck is their guard?!"
As you say, very well placed kick. But it should not have landed, and in the fights i've been in, I wouldn't have had the time or the SPACE to do that. In real fights, and I mean do or die fights, i've never been able to lift my leg that high because in that executing moment i'd be pounded to the ground. The only kicks i've found effective in street fights are forward thrusts - they're fucking awesome =]
think it really matters what kind of kick that was. It was powerful and on target and by all means ended the match, WOW what a blow to the head!!!!! OUCH!!!!!

By greebothecat 1140529188 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThis game is Taekwondo not kickboxing, and this kick called screw-back-turn and u got 2 points for hitting opponent head.
By bs4ever 1140606660 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove"screw back turn??" i have NEVER heard this one. nearly all modern / competitive sport taekwondo schools refer to this kick as a "narabang" (the korean nickname for this kick) and if not, they call it the following: 360 roundhouse / 360 jump roundhouse / spinning roundhouse / spinning jump roundhouse (or replace roundhouse with round kick). the "tornado kick" name is actually usually used for the corresponding kick in chinese wushu. by the way, this taekwondo clip is amateur - only collegiates. you want to see a great taekwondo knockout, check out the men's heavyweight finals from Athens 2004 - Korea vs. Greece, or look up any national team-level fights.
By bryma 1140621285 Reply Spam [+4] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo many people think that kick was something new, or they make up screwy names for it, but thanks for clearing it up for the non-koreans. AZN PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!
By Generic Azn 1142990278 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeat my school we call that a spinning roundhouse or a butterfly roundhouse kick...
By orangetkdgirl 1142115256 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removemaybe u are right about the name .. but in where i live .. the masters of taekwondo ( like Mr. Chin ... who gets the game 2 our country -jordan- ) called it like this : screw back turning . and by the way .. my brother is player on the national team of jordan
By bs4ever 1141157979 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeahh, interesting. i admit i have no idea what kicks are called in jordan. in the US and canada most modern players refer to it as narabang, unless they use the actual korean name, which is rather rare.
By bryma 1141172440 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehi again. the name of the kick at least in Korean and in its pure form is called Dolyo chagie. chagie is the korean name for kick. you may ask your brother that is a TKD national and he will advise properly. the kick that we saw is called tiro or TYRO dolyo chagie. which means a spinning (or actually with a turn enhanced) what you call "rounndhouse kick. and it scored 3 point. 2 due to the head blow and one extra point for the referre counting. in any case it is nice to have so many people around the world interested in this sport. though i prefer to see it as a martial art since a lot of its original ideas techniques and attitude is changed since it became an olympic sport.
By nwlis 1141717383 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNaaaah, i met this kick once in a pub and his name is Bill Somethinn ... "burps" ... bartender one more beer ...
By Bcnbartender 1144992901 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewe learn the kicks with the original Korean names :)
By dave mech 1143645670 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeand this comment above mine is 100% right the Korean name is indeed TYRO DOLYO CHAGIE
By dave mech 1143645640 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removetornado kick is more like a combination of a inner crescant and a roundhouse kick in close succession, i cant remember which is which... its similar, but not the same... not how i learned it anyway.
i watched some kung fu tutorial video clips the other day after not doing it for 2.5 years and its amazing how much i've forgotten. my kung fu also was very minor on the kicks, more of punching and chin na grappling.
Just posted a clip of it - poor quality and no sound but its a great knockout nonetheless.
By bryma 1140669852 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere can we see the athens fights?
By angelicusdiablos 1140632453 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere can i find them?
By technogene 1140630412 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove2 points is all he will need.
By americanjock30 1140621622 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Remove-the name of the kick is tyro (tiro) dolyo chagie, or tyro paldum chagie.
- this blow scored 3 points for the athlete that executed it. 2 for a head blow and one extra point because the referee initiated a count down. Nonetheless, it smells like a KO to me.
-as you can undrstand this blow must be in the 3 round since the athletes are tires and the guards are completely down. the technique is all wrong but quite effective i would say. badly executed though he maximum result.

Knowledge is relative. Just like different languages us different words for the same thing, so do different martial arts styles.
By orxababa 1141558451 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewatch the new WTF TKD black belts, they all fight with their hands down. Well not all but you get the idea. They train for olympic rules and with no punching to the head more and more are following that trend. I had a school for awhile on vancouver island and had red belts vome in that could not throw a proper front punch. no good in a tournament so why learn it is the new thought pattern. sad for what was once an art that had so much respect from other styles.
By WhatMeWorry 1140746509 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei do aggree on that my friend and it is sad doing so. TKD became a sport and not a martial art. just 3 kicks too much money and schools different variations. ive doing it so many years won metal had numerous bruises and broken ribs.
3 months ago it all came to me and i started all over. i went to my current instructor tha is 66 years old and has stuied TKD since 1965 from Korean teachers themselves. i reliased that my techinque was awfull, my stances were wrong etc etc.....i was given a red belt since it was impossible for him to were a black one and i am trying to find find the true meaning of TKD as a martial art. too much talking explanations on the techniques, Hyongs and not poomses. TKD as it is normally taught, is impresseive the best style to show off but has no true value or effectiveness unlees you are an actor and want to impress your audience. While, it is much more than all these.
and yes i regret that most "athletes keep their hands down. it hs to do with angular momentum, since a smaller radius will give them a quicker turn and a greter mobility. it will also give them a breuised eye in real life.
anyway, my opinion is to be an athlete till you reach 30 and cannot compeat anymore and then switch to the traditional side and try to "learn" the style and its principles.
thanks
u got knocked the F*** OUT....
loll
Great spinning round kick. Wonderful form. His opponent should have known it was coming when he switched into the opposite stance of his dominant side. The guy in the red and white is gonna be talking backwards the rest of the day lol.

that's a good kick .. but it took to long , he didnt start any combo before that kick to lead into . the oher guy could've done a side kick , or a spin kick or a fast attack .. dunno , martial arts isnt for slow guys , u need power and speed and accuracy . it's the basic 3 table , lack one and you're the weak spot

By afgboy 1168036682 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBut it looked a whole lot worse than it actually was. I'd rather take one of those to the head than a thrusting front kick or even a roundhouse. That kick looks pretty but your relying just on the spinning motion to help generate the power rather than your whole body like you do in a kick from a standing position.
By debaser_82 1165251766 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThat happen's when you keep your hands down, typical TKD mistake
By AZZASEL69 1160358122 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeu dumbasses and ur cage figting, only reason grapplers win is cuz half the fukin strikes are against the rules, cage fighting NOW and cage fighting 20 years ago is way different, before all the new rules wer put in, alot of asian styles of martial arts won becuz people had broken backs and arms and all that crap before they even went to the ground, mixed martial arts is for tournaments, asian martial arts wer made to disable and kill people, each one is good at wat it is ment for

AS someone who practices Ju-Jitsu (a full-contact martial art) a few years, i didn't understand this fight very well.
The kick was indeed preformed well, but a couple of questions:
1. if it's kicks to the face, it's most likely a full-contact sport, but if so, it's a very bad tactic to attack with a spinning back kick, as one will surely be punched in the ribs.
2. the kicker is either very confident, or cocky, becuase 5 seconds before the kick he sends his right leg foward, a clear sign for a back kick.
usually one begins a punch-kick combo and finishes with a quick leg-switch and back kick.
the opponent should have seen it and start an attack quickly, while his strong leg is in no position to defend very well. why didn't he?
Well that ended up quit long.
