One forceful kick. The poor guy will have to rest a few days :)
You talkin' to me? I said, you talkin' to me?
{crack}
wu twakwin nu nee? nu twaukin'...
{thud}.
...because you get your whole body twisting to produce the force. But, it's a very slow setup, and to get one off at that close range with no lead-in kick just shows how bad the guy in red was. Really, the guy in red should have been all over him the minute his opponent turned his back, but instead he just stood there, with his arms at his side, asking to get kicked in the head. Neither of these guys had even decent blocking or guards skills, which is common in lower-level Tae Kwon Do (which is what kind of match this looks like, as nobody is bothering to punch). Man, if I tried a tornado (jump-spinning roundhouse) on my Sensei (or even most of the other students) without SEVERAL setup strikes leading into it, I'd either eat his fist, wrap myself around his side kick or get swept off my feet. One of my Senseis got a good spinning round kick onto my left eye out of nowhere during a back-and forth exchange we were having in a sparring match, which hurt, but I still had my block up before it made contact (through my block - legs are strong) and barely got shaken... and it didn't stop my attack (which he still dodged, but then, he's a Sensei).
That guy in red needs to rest up, then learn how to keep his guard up, then learn how to block and counter-strike. Well placed kick by the blue combatant, but they both need some serious guard and blocking work. I don't think either of them would last long in my dojo, they don't block or set up well enough. But, I bet that guy in red is going to work on his blocking a bit more now!
He should quit Tae Kwon Do and learn something useful.
By oblivionwolf 1145825266i agree with you entirely. i am a novice in taekwondo but i do love the tornado. i am a brown belt but i am superior to many higher belts. personally i wish i went to a more strict and better taekwondo place, but i still love it. i'd love to see you or your sensei in a video if you would post one. anyways good luck in your martial arts
By Leeroy Jenkins 1187418039That's all i could think of from the get go watching this.
"Where the F**k is their guard?!"
As you say, very well placed kick. But it should not have landed, and in the fights i've been in, I wouldn't have had the time or the SPACE to do that. In real fights, and I mean do or die fights, i've never been able to lift my leg that high because in that executing moment i'd be pounded to the ground. The only kicks i've found effective in street fights are forward thrusts - they're F**king awesome =]
think it really matters what kind of kick that was. It was powerful and on target and by all means ended the match, WOW what a blow to the head!!!!! OUCH!!!!!
By lienad 1140665740i used to like doing that but not in the face haha
By KungFuKris 1142527132but search for 'face kick' and you'll see the meaning of pain...
By amnesiac248 1175356039that was so funny I am laughing at this very moment, and about the movie uhhhhhh that must be painful...pain, pain a lot of painnnnnnnnn
By tarkowski 1148750150hcuo.... urrrrr.... i knew this was gonn....a..... aaa.a....THUD
By wadup95 1142404919This game is Taekwondo not kickboxing, and this kick called screw-back-turn and u got 2 points for hitting opponent head.
By bs4ever 1140606660"screw back turn??" i have NEVER heard this one. nearly all modern / competitive sport taekwondo schools refer to this kick as a "narabang" (the korean nickname for this kick) and if not, they call it the following: 360 roundhouse / 360 jump roundhouse / spinning roundhouse / spinning jump roundhouse (or replace roundhouse with round kick). the "tornado kick" name is actually usually used for the corresponding kick in chinese wushu. by the way, this taekwondo clip is amateur - only collegiates. you want to see a great taekwondo knockout, check out the men's heavyweight finals from Athens 2004 - Korea vs. Greece, or look up any national team-level fights.
By bryma 1140621285So many people think that kick was something new, or they make up screwy names for it, but thanks for clearing it up for the non-koreans. AZN PRIDE!!!!!!!!!!
By Generic Azn 1142990278at my school we call that a spinning roundhouse or a butterfly roundhouse kick...
By orangetkdgirl 1142115256maybe u are right about the name .. but in where i live .. the masters of taekwondo ( like Mr. Chin ... who gets the game 2 our country -jordan- ) called it like this : screw back turning . and by the way .. my brother is player on the national team of jordan
By bs4ever 1141157979ahh, interesting. i admit i have no idea what kicks are called in jordan. in the US and canada most modern players refer to it as narabang, unless they use the actual korean name, which is rather rare.
By bryma 1141172440hi again. the name of the kick at least in Korean and in its pure form is called Dolyo chagie. chagie is the korean name for kick. you may ask your brother that is a TKD national and he will advise properly. the kick that we saw is called tiro or TYRO dolyo chagie. which means a spinning (or actually with a turn enhanced) what you call "rounndhouse kick. and it scored 3 point. 2 due to the head blow and one extra point for the referre counting. in any case it is nice to have so many people around the world interested in this sport. though i prefer to see it as a martial art since a lot of its original ideas techniques and attitude is changed since it became an olympic sport.
By nwlis 1141717383Naaaah, i met this kick once in a pub and his name is Bill Somethinn ... "burps" ... bartender one more beer ...
By Bcnbartender 1144992901and this comment above mine is 100% right the Korean name is indeed TYRO DOLYO CHAGIE
By dave mech 1143645640tornado kick is more like a combination of a inner crescant and a roundhouse kick in close succession, i cant remember which is which... its similar, but not the same... not how i learned it anyway.
i watched some kung fu tutorial video clips the other day after not doing it for 2.5 years and its amazing how much i've forgotten. my kung fu also was very minor on the kicks, more of punching and chin na grappling.
Just posted a clip of it - poor quality and no sound but its a great knockout nonetheless.
By bryma 1140669852-the name of the kick is tyro (tiro) dolyo chagie, or tyro paldum chagie.
- this blow scored 3 points for the athlete that executed it. 2 for a head blow and one extra point because the referee initiated a count down. Nonetheless, it smells like a KO to me.
-as you can undrstand this blow must be in the 3 round since the athletes are tires and the guards are completely down. the technique is all wrong but quite effective i would say. badly executed though he maximum result.
Sources: WTF rules
i practice TWD dor 12 and i am an instructor. please when you write something write something you know. thanx
Knowledge is relative. Just like different languages us different words for the same thing, so do different martial arts styles.
By orxababa 1141558451watch the new WTF TKD black belts, they all fight with their hands down. Well not all but you get the idea. They train for olympic rules and with no punching to the head more and more are following that trend. I had a school for awhile on vancouver island and had red belts vome in that could not throw a proper front punch. no good in a tournament so why learn it is the new thought pattern. sad for what was once an art that had so much respect from other styles.
By WhatMeWorry 1140746509i do aggree on that my friend and it is sad doing so. TKD became a sport and not a martial art. just 3 kicks too much money and schools different variations. ive doing it so many years won metal had numerous bruises and broken ribs.
3 months ago it all came to me and i started all over. i went to my current instructor tha is 66 years old and has stuied TKD since 1965 from Korean teachers themselves. i reliased that my techinque was awfull, my stances were wrong etc etc.....i was given a red belt since it was impossible for him to were a black one and i am trying to find find the true meaning of TKD as a martial art. too much talking explanations on the techniques, Hyongs and not poomses. TKD as it is normally taught, is impresseive the best style to show off but has no true value or effectiveness unlees you are an actor and want to impress your audience. While, it is much more than all these.
and yes i regret that most "athletes keep their hands down. it hs to do with angular momentum, since a smaller radius will give them a quicker turn and a greter mobility. it will also give them a breuised eye in real life.
anyway, my opinion is to be an athlete till you reach 30 and cannot compeat anymore and then switch to the traditional side and try to "learn" the style and its principles.
thanks
Great spinning round kick. Wonderful form. His opponent should have known it was coming when he switched into the opposite stance of his dominant side. The guy in the red and white is gonna be talking backwards the rest of the day lol.

that's a good kick .. but it took to long , he didnt start any combo before that kick to lead into . the oher guy could've done a side kick , or a spin kick or a fast attack .. dunno , martial arts isnt for slow guys , u need power and speed and accuracy . it's the basic 3 table , lack one and you're the weak spot
By teodor X 1189857624Why is this tagged aikido? It is not even close, looks like TKD
By RBPierce 1182967517MAN, THAT GUY TOOK ONE... DID YOU SEE THE CAMERA MAN IN THE BLACK SHIRT IN THE BACK GROUND... HE KNEW IT WAS COMING, I BET THAT PICTURE MADE THE FRONT PAGE OF THE SCHOOL PAPER... KICKED SO HARD DUDE HAD CRAZY LEGS AFTER THAT ONE... HELLA FUNNY!
By cdeezi420 1176850478is the way the winner is like "oops..better walk away sharpish" when he sees what he did to that poor guy :)

look at the website...
this move seems effective. ive been trying to learn it myself. i took karate when i was yonger just started tai kwan do. very interesting tho. 10/10
By sunaru 1172801616nicee ican do that...check out my video guys http://www.metacafe.com/watch/371220/kick/
By afgboy 1168036682But it looked a whole lot worse than it actually was. I'd rather take one of those to the head than a thrusting front kick or even a roundhouse. That kick looks pretty but your relying just on the spinning motion to help generate the power rather than your whole body like you do in a kick from a standing position.
By debaser_82 1165251766That happen's when you keep your hands down, typical TKD mistake
By AZZASEL69 1160358122u dumbasses and ur cage figting, only reason grapplers win is cuz half the fukin strikes are against the rules, cage fighting NOW and cage fighting 20 years ago is way different, before all the new rules wer put in, alot of asian styles of martial arts won becuz people had broken backs and arms and all that crap before they even went to the ground, mixed martial arts is for tournaments, asian martial arts wer made to disable and kill people, each one is good at wat it is ment for
By Thanatos1029 1159059098Any1 who didnt see the guy kick b4 the guy were hit?
and why do they call that karate? this is taekwondo (a dance :P) if you have trained karate 1 month u could reacht fast enough to see that one comin and punch him in his balls.. easy! but the guy who got kicked have never learnt to avoid or parry as i see.. everybody can see that one coming! if not u are slow..!
very interesting 1
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/201748/whats_inside/
AS someone who practices Ju-Jitsu (a full-contact martial art) a few years, i didn't understand this fight very well.
The kick was indeed preformed well, but a couple of questions:
1. if it's kicks to the face, it's most likely a full-contact sport, but if so, it's a very bad tactic to attack with a spinning back kick, as one will surely be punched in the ribs.
2. the kicker is either very confident, or cocky, becuase 5 seconds before the kick he sends his right leg foward, a clear sign for a back kick.
usually one begins a punch-kick combo and finishes with a quick leg-switch and back kick.
the opponent should have seen it and start an attack quickly, while his strong leg is in no position to defend very well. why didn't he?
Well that ended up quit long.
That shot from the guy at the background was really well timed.Superb
By Cyprocity 1154271435holy crap!!! Im suprised that guy even stood up after that!!! hahahahahaha
I go for Taekwondo classes and I've watched alot of tournaments but i've never seen anything like this!
By Rajjo 1154150959that was a very nice ........ and what can i say you're just the best.
By Ali Reza Jan 1153883373Also, for however said "I learned this at so and so belt"...it doesn't matter. I've seen white belts train harder than brown belts.
The only major difference between a 360 roundhouse and a tornado kick is which foot you land with. Obviously, that doesn't apply here, because he landed with the kicking foot into the other guy's head, which pretty much gaurentees he'll be using the other foot to land.
im kinda suprised the guy in red didnt even ty to block it or anything.
By gurg 1149996956wow that was an insane kick and damn it looks like the guy got knocked the F*** out!
By brlrcr17 1149866352if compared to me, they will be nothing if they facing me, even both of them at the same goddamn time!! hehez!
By bLinkbLind 1149045615Unrealistic against a good fighter though. If you knew what you were doing(and they don't, I mean they don't even have their hands up) you would just step into the kick and have the kicker land on his face, or recycle his knee into a mush.
By ERHALL01 1146183793I don't mean to be a critic or put down anyones style, but this would never happen to anyone who trained in a none "Tae Kwon Do" style or any other non-kicking school. Don't get me wrong, T-K-D is good for going against people whod don't train in anything else, just not against real pros. Most people would just step into the kick and the kicker would fall on his face or have his knee recycled into mush.
By ERHALL01 1146183693I'm sorr y tiny goth, but that is a tornado kick, I do it at my studio all the time....my style is American Karate, descended from tung su do, and that is the kick. Don't say it is not it when you may study something different.
Awesome video!
that was spinning-reverse swing kick.
I won't learn that until I reach brown belt.
The reason he got knocked ut was due to his set up. His hands were basically down to his knees. I've take TKD and there is still np way I'd square off in a fight with my hands down. They even teach you to block kicks/punches in TKD, none of that here...
But i als boxed, and liked boxing better, so maybe thats just me. It was an impressive kick, but that would'ne have been a knockout if he had even attempted to evade the kick with his forearm. Even while TKD sparring, i just blocked and countered which made our matches last longer, which is why I switched to boxing.
I just think its cool that the red guy gets all the attention then the lil dude jus comes outa no where n re-arranges his face. Hehe.
By Benc12 1145138705dat didnt look like it hurt, just a k.o, and y the hell do people want to dance before they fight, hey mike tyson u wanna do the cha cha before i punch you in the face? wat a pair of pussies, y dont u walk up, all calm like, and kik him right above the knee? then his leg breaks , his knee caps bust open, and he cant fight... voila!
By commie pinko wannabe 1145065160this is TKD, its simple, u learn it at red stripe, lots of ppl can do that
By willurd 1144715509THAT WAS THAT GREEN DUDE FROM POWER RANGERS MADE THAT KICK
By hey! hey! 1144634823THANKS FOR MAKING IT CLEAR. WE DIDNT SAW IT ON THE VIDEO BUT WHEN U SAID IT WE ALL UNDERSTAND.THANK U
By hey! hey! 1144635003it's called a tornado roundhouse kick. i myself never got the guts to actually do that kick cause i'm to slow but really good for people doing like a pushing kick or a back kick cause you will just spin past it.
By Shingko 1143896971I do MMA, and I never made a connection like that. That was sweet. Taekwondo rocks! I can't even do the Screw Back Turn kick, let alone land it on target. BAM! I'd love to see this used in real life, on the streets. BAM~! Amazing.
By JesseSpohn 1143754835This is one cool 360 Turning Kick!!
Taekwondo Is A Art.........
That's exactly why you block with your hands :P I am a second dan in shotokan karate.
By Shadowboost 1142752790yes the first tae kwon do video on the net ive seen and im so happy cuz im a first dan black. and its not tornado kik it happens to be a 360 flting turn kick ;D
By DAMN STICKY KEYS 1142645805That guy got nailed in the face he probably has some big red mark on his face hes probabvly out cold that really had to hurt. i used to go to martial arts b 4 my mom said i havwe to work harder on my homework. but isnt a tornado kick illegal unless you it on the torso yeah he was probably disqualified
By KungFuKris 1142527057Trouble is with high kicks in a real fight, it allows you to be taken to the floor. As soon as he starts to spin, a wrestler or Ju-jitsu will go for the take down. Thats why they are only used on standup fighters and even then only when the opponent is a little weary. Its a bit like TEKEN 2 . A super move might finish the opponent off, but it allows a counter attack to an alert opponent.
By BenjaminTheBlue 1142099895that,s what happens when you have your hands are at your hips,T K D will get killed.
By JoFo 1141843467those people had their hands way to low
they should be much nearer the face
serves the guy right having his gaurd so low
good kick, Show'us some ones with no gards ; )
By Kinder :) 1140896837that was i nice kick,i hav done martial arts for the last 7 years and i hav never seen anything like that
By ra2 1140797280I am a first degree black belt in Kenpo Karate. I have also taken Tae Kwon Doe. Although its been a while, I know that that is a spinning round house and not a tornado kick. With a tornado kick, your non kicking leg is in the air as well. It tricks them into blocking the first leg and then you hit them with the second before landing.
Bad reaction time by the guy that got pwned.
im a senior 2nd degree blackbelt in ITA tae kwon do and its a jump spin inside cresent kick or 360 inside cresent kick.
By azn91 1140751430i do ITF Tae Kwon Do now and did WTF Tae Kwon Do for 6 years and it is a 360 turning kick
By akthin 1154794346ive been ita for over 9 years now so you shut up and btw its also known as a tornado kick.
By azn91 1154811460I meant to say that a tornado kick is a spinning cresent kick done in the air.
By UFCFighter15 1140713276looks more like a spinning roundhouse. A tornado kick would have been a that kick but spinning in the air.
By UFCFighter15 1140713114close but no, a tornado is almost identical however is done with an inside crescent kick, The tornado kick gets its name because several can be don in repitition. Although doing one is still called a tornado kick. the kick above is done at a further distance than a tornado kick where you would be more upright in body postition and much closer to the target. The fighting is WTF olympic style.
By WhatMeWorry 1140662315Such a beautiful kick with great accuracy. Very cool video
By Zodiac Killer 1140639620He wasn't limping he had lost his sence of balance, probably because he was kicked in the head. duh.
HELL YES!!! and who said tae kwon do wasn't tough? unfortunately, that wasn't a full tornado kick. just a spinning round kick. it would have been the tornado if he had done several kicks in succession though. i love using that move when i spar.
By chrisx 1140567005Your rite it isn't a tornado kick, but for the wrong reason. A tornado kick can be one kick but it is done with an inside crescent kick as opposed to a round house or turning kick.
By WhatMeWorry 1140661888CHECK THE GUY WHO TAKES THE SHOT IN THE BACKGROUND !!! IS NICE ALSO...WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
By tico0973 1140548707The poor guy never saw it coming. Most fighters know and see that when the foot closest to you turns 180 degrees away from you that a roundhouse is coming, either step in for the kill shot or step back. Most everyone who sees it steps back and only the best ones step in.
By Joe Cool 1140536153it was well placed, but very slow...for some reason the other guy did not react
By thehymner 1176693803That was A perfect kick from the blue guy, but if i were the red guy I would of proply went for a leg sweep because the kick that the blue guy did took a long time to do and had to completely turnaround so you proply know what he will do.........
By UniqueJay 1173908435owned.
UCLA owns everyone. more NCAA championshhips than any other school
isnt ur F**king hand up i bet ur master S**k r u dont know how to fight
By Pancha 1161401066As I mentioned in another post,
Tae Kwon Do's weakness is the lack of defence/offense with hands. I am not a Tae Kwon Do hater, I practiced for 1 year, and I am very greatful to learn some basics from it. But in mixed martial arts, one can defeat the opponent by using hands, and countering many of their chained kicks by charging (used as a defensive strategy, or defensive stance, chaining into an offensive attack with the hands).
I will mention again, tai kwon do teaches how to use your feet, building strength, speed and accuracy, and chaining kicks together. But without stressing a good defensive posture, will enevitably lead to a weakness especially exposed in mixed martial arts tournanments
i went 2 taekwondo like 3 years ago when iwas in 4th grade i know that if the founder isnt from the country like tae kwon do korea for example u hav a ripoff. and the first time i did a tornado kick as my school called it was easy for myself when i first tried when i was a yellow belt. id have to say that Shaolin is the best out there
By KungFuKris 1142527790i think that the guy that recieved the kick must've done something ya know to be kompeting in a kategory of black belts he's gotta be more kareful
By me_1819 1140932156ive had that tornado kick done on me before... IT IS F***ING PAINFUL! and just as the video shows you get VERY dizzy. I fainted cause of that F***ING tornado kick once... i advise not to do kickboxing if ure a wimp
By shplogz 1140892774
