A 55mW Viper laser pointer fails miserably to pop a water balloon. No problem with the laser, just a VERY tough water balloon.

    Although 55mw is a pretty hefty load of energy for a laser pointer, it will never pop a water balloon. It will pop an air filled black balloon however. Water balloons wont even pop from a flame. The water acts as an absorbent and the edge of the balloon only acts as the middleman. If you do this with a flam you shouldn't even feel heat when you touch the balloon afterwards. In order for a water balloon tto pop from heat the water must be the appropriate temperature.

      Even though they are the cheapest quality lasers i could find, they are still expensive.
