  • No joke, AVG rules

    I switched over to AVG not because it was free, but because it *actually* works, unlike such well-known crapware like Symantec or McAfee. I was under the false illusion that my Symantec was actually protecting me, when one day a virus slipped past. It was so obviously a virus that I knew it was a virus, but Symantec happily reported no infection. I installed AVG, and it found it, and then I uninstalled Symantec, and let the subscription expire. Best of all, AVG doesn't completely take over all of the resources of your computer like the crapware does. Another good one I tried was a program called Anti-Vir, also freeware.

      Two years ago I had Norton Antivirus and a virus entered my computer and wiped out everything including Norton. I did the same as you; got AVG downloaded, ran it and it got the virus. I then used a restore function and have never looked back. Since that time AVG has captured several trojans and other viruses.

      I've used AVG for years and it is a good program. Recently I have tried Avast and found it to be superior.

    Btw, another great free tool to have is Spybot Search and Destroy.

  • AVG FREE ROCKS

    I thought I was about the only that even heard of AVG. It rocks, it's free, but I do get the popups. Every week it asks me to upgrade. That's it, 1 click and the popups gone. The cost is in Euros, but I'm thinking about actually buying it has proven itself to me. It even scanned a computer that I connected to my network befor it infected my main server.

    I have used AVG free for a couple of years at least now....As far as I am aware I have had no viruses or spymare get thru.

    Tried Norton a while back...It was like a takeover bid and slowed pc down big time.

    Long live AVG Free!!
