BY RICHARD LAYCOCK
ANCHOR MEGAN MURPHY
A discovery in the KFC archives.
A manuscript-- written by the Colonel himself.
According to Yahoo!’s Trending Now, the 200 hundred page document is supposedly sprinkled with recipes and personal stories of Harland David Sanders.
“A secret manuscript from the mid-1960s was discovered hiding in the KFC archives by an employee. In the first chapter, the colonel describes the 200-page book as ‘the story of a man's life and the story of the food he's cooked and eaten.’ The colonel shares his recipes for casseroles, omelets, pancakes, and pies that reflect his love for ‘old-time country and farm cooking’.”
ABC adds-- the manuscript has been hiding away for roughly 50 years.
“It seems while he built KFC into a global brand, the white jacketed Colonel had his eye on another lucrative market … celebrity food books … specifically his own. The 200-page manuscript is full of his own home spun anecdotes, life lessons and favourite recipes. And KFC plans to publish the manuscript online.”
But some bloggers say-- the discovery is awfully convenient-- and lucrative. According to a food blogger for the New Times Broward-Palm Beach--
“Maybe we don't believe in kismet or fate here at Clean Plate Charlie, but the statement released by KFC parent Yum Brands reads much like a children's fairy tale ... The fact that the company plans to publish the manuscript also makes this discovery sound a bit like a publicity stunt.”
While KFC says it may adopt some of the recipes included in the manuscript-- one has to wonder if that’s what the Colonel would have wanted. LTVN reports before his death-- the Colonel almost had a libel suit brought against him for comments he made about the current state of KFC.
“Here’s what he had to say about the mashed potatoes. ‘My God, that gravy is horrible. They buy tap water for 15 to 20 cents a thousand gallons and they mix it with flour and starch and end up with pure wallpaper paste …’ Once they’ve got the wallpaper paste the Colonel said that they add some ‘ ...sludge... There’s no nutrition in it and they ought not be allowed to sell it ...’”
According to the Associated Press, Sanders' secret mix of 11 herbs and spices is still locked inside the company's vault.
