The Cortege passes the cenotaph as a member of the crowd calls out "We love you Diana!" The Queen and Queen Mother arrive with Prince Edward at Westminster Abbey to polite applause as the organ begins playing Pachelbel's 'Canon in D'. The Queen Mother was just over a month past her 97th birthday at this time and had just over four and half years of her remarkable life left to live. I've heard it said her longevity was due in large part to her cheerful outlook on life: which should be a lesson for us all.
The cortege passes Downing Street and the Houses of Parliament although they were not seen from the BBC's cameras. It would also have passed the Banqueting House where King Charles I was executed in 1649, having lost the Civil War.
The cortege enters its final stretch after turning the corner on Parliament Square towards Victoria. The 400 or so charity workers stop as they are to participate in the service from St. Margaret's Chapel as the Abbey was not big enough to accomodate them alongside the other invited guests.
As the gun carriage pulls in front of the Abbey, the time is just leaving 10.55am.
I now have a region free DVD created of the Funeral footage, please get in touch if you would like a copy.
