Classic knockout between Korea's Moon Dae-Sung and the Greek giant Alexandros Nikolaidis. The correct name for the kick in sport Taekwondo is "Spinning hook kick". Sorry, but no sound.
his loss was sure even before the fight even though the korean guy, moon, had one broken leg. i myself, a member of a greek tkd team that won the trophy for the best team in greece and i trained with nikolaidis trainer ( he is pathetic, and thinks just cause he is korean that he knows tkd...) anyway, the fight was kinda unfair because moon is perfectly trained, 6 hours a day, with one day a week day-off, but nikolaidis is in the national team just cause his father is one of the greatest trainers here in greece, but he cant actually kick... i was there when it happend, with the national team, front row, (his head looked like its gonna fell of lol) . in the fight he did a big mistake by not leaning his head and body back and turning his shoulders while performing the dollyo chagi... so moon just whent with the routine batadollyochagi training rotine, and kicked the flava out of his mouth... i ll be at the 2012 olympics TKD WTF fighting for greece, i ll show u how its done..lol
By akvan 1149854344you are extreemly opionated man. Just because you were there doesn't mean you know it for sure.
Perfectly trained man against someone who can't kick and makes big mistakes? and that fight is unfair? What a joke. The guy shouldn't have received the chance to fight to be really fair.
hey.. im british, and therefore will definitely be at the 2012 olympics.. im no national competitor, but do train in wtf tkd.. so, what's your name, if u want ppl to look out for u.. or moreover.. if we wana see "how its done"??? do reply please!
By the-pessimist 1167181503thanks for the good insider info. now a disclaimer - i'm no national team player by any means, but my coaches have all been either US national team members, and one former olympic coach. So this is my two cents: i think it is not always such a sure issue with consistent backwards body angle/leaning on the dollyo chagi. Now dont get me wrong- Nikolaidis i think should have seen that hook coming from moon, even though his stance wasn't particularly staggered. but his open stance, defensive behavior and overall strategy (david vs. goliath?) should have indicated a counter was coming, and this would have been one of the times in which a more conservative lead-off, check, or trap would have been more prudent. but its always a judgment call - you either have to give full forward commitment with an off-the-line or not. if you intend to score with an off-the-line attack, a backwards leaning kick, open stance or not, will usually be crippled and won't score. As I said, its a judgment call, and Nik chose(or acted as such) to fully commit to an attempted point with his off-the-line, with forward momentum and body angle. as we all saw, it appeared to be the wrong choice. :)
By bryma 1149866347nikolaidis didnt expect this to happen because when he was training with moon in korea, moon wasnt allowed to use turning kicks to avoid injuries, but nikolaidis didnt knew this... and u know what happend then ;-)
i myself, trained with a member of the 2008 korean olympic team 2008 called Han, who defeated moon in the korean nationals. we fought (it was kinda unfair cause he is 20 kilos heavier) and he knocked me out with a tichagi... do u think that if we fought in a real tournament i would attack him the same way again?
thats why nikolaidis lost, because moon saw this fight comming and wanted nikolaidis to underestimate him...
It's been a few years, but titchagi is a kick to the stomach.
Oh, and on the topic of the video, I thought it looked plain as daylight what he was setting up for there; the way he braces himself just seems to be characteristic of most people I've seen setting up for that type of kick.
its Pitchagi not tichagi
i would know next weekend i'm going for black belt
perfect timing and skilfully done! bravo
simply put never understimate an oponent,
having performed that technique whatever you call it,
not to mention olympics is no luck!
The reaction from the crowd was unacceptable and emabarasing for Greece .The spectators ,greeks mostly ,were booed the Korean off because they couldnt accept his superiority. He was clever enough to embrace the greek athlete and celebrate with him ,running hand by hand around the stage holding both flags together. This somehow calmed the crowd.
I guess the spirit of ancient Greece is not alive anymore .
wow tikondo is realy good and very hardit is the really sport that lern u how to protec your self me too i plat tikondo no body can bbet me
By bassyouni2 1168102058You stupid greek F**k U should fight with your heart. If you 're brave u can kick ass. Like we turks did in the past for independence.
By yuksel 1160526443Thanks for sharing this TKD video. Fighter in Red has good kicks. I studied ITF Taekwondo for 4 years. It is difficult but impressive.
By Jerrys_Menu 1157522442The tall guy falls of like a tree in front of the short korean dude. it is not about the strength of your body, but of your heart. nice one.
By the_turk 1156069446After all , was a very good couter-kick by Moon, but I'm sure the reason for the greek's coach to run into the ring complainning to the referee , was because you can't fall after you complete your kick . Used to be very commun to see these type of kicks before , but not anymore. Anyway it'll be almost imposible to overturn a decision against a Korean on the final match!
By ExtremeTKD 1151378782He stayed in an open stance (both facing same direction) and that is a perfect setup for any back kick or back spinning kick. He got hit with the back spinning kick. If his stance was closed (right foot forward) then his round house would have collided with the Korean's kick is all. Well live and learn I sey.
By CA_Steel 1149574111blue was not open ... i think red is left-handed, that's why they was both facing the same direction
great timing!!! its so perfect!!
without that helmet the other dude will be dead! LOL
great response, attk speed, and perfect timing...!!! de kick is so powerful that de tall guy get dizzy... =.=" itz easy to knw de techniques but diff to practice it... its a double edge technique, i thk.... if u cant get de oppenent, de oppenent wil get u.... bravo for korean fighter~
By satay lou 1143648877he was rocked very easily there he has a small head despite his size! tkd isn't as usefull in mma as many other martial arts altho it is still a great sport
By da-heat 1177936226dominate international judo, tae kwon do, hap ki do, ai ki do, and many types of karate.
And before someone gets off by correcting me, I know karate is a Japanese art.
Many of the best international taekwondo teams include, yes of course, South Korea, but also the US, Chinese Taipei, and Iran, among others.
By bryma 1141551547The correct name for the kick is "bandea dolyo chagi" and because he kinda jump it could be a "twio bandea dolyo chagi". but i admit my spelling could be off a little. its been a while since practiced Tae Kwon Do.
By Rangingranger 1141385018That may be the korean term but more and more schools are giving them english names. So spinning hook kick or jump spinning hook kick is also correct.
By WhatMeWorry 1141406513its true, that is the korean term. i should have mentioned it was the correct name in english. i just wanted to avoid people starting up the "whoa, crazy tornado/spinning wheel/etc" or such nonsense.
By bryma 1141442678why dont he put his guard up when he attack its follish to attack a good kicker as a tkd with no guard a muay thai fighter would never do that
By lighter 1142955674let's see, judging by what happen with this clip, i'm not sure how the fight went but from what the clip showed me was, A.the korean guy isn't all that good of a fighter, if he was he would've did it without getting kicked in the first place, plus he wouldn't have gotten kicked in the ass and fall, =D
B. the greek fellow wasn't sure of himself so he hesitated and did a front round house kick to the ass area, he was aiming for a point score which is the mid part of the body. in the end
the one with the most time and luck plus good aiming and good sence will come out winner,
the korean guy did the kick, it was 40 60 40 skill 60 luck
watch the clip agian and agian and you will understand that luck had a big part in it, few TKD will use that kick when being rushed upon. thanks bye
I have no idea where you are getting this idea of Moon not being such a good TKD fighter. He's 2003, 2005, and 2006 Wolrd Champion with 31 undefeated matches in a row. I mean... this is a heavyweight fight, so you can't really expect speed and rapid turns that you'd seen in lighter weights. However, as far as the heavyweight class goes, he's currently the best in the world. My cousin is on the Korean national team right now; so I know how hard it is and how good of a TKD player you'd have to be to win a gold medal at Olympics or even to be on the national team. I often find some random ass people who just practice TKD for fun at local dojos making fun or criticizing World class TKD players. Being able to see Nikolaidis coming in with a tilted stance and a wide open left and returning a dollechagi on the head is not from LUCK... it's a skill that a guy like you can never fathom or perform. So, my bottom line is who the hell do you think you are to make such an arrogant claim? I highly suggest you to go back to your TKD dojo and learn your place.
