I think your point is that it's perfectly OK for soldiers (representing a democratic and civil rights loving country) to break international laws, even if those laws apply during occupation? Well then, why complain if American soldiers are getting killed by insurgents? In war everything is OK according to you, right? Then what is so illegal and bad about the methods that insurgents use? After all they're just taking the law into their own hands (like these idiot soldiers), they're doing so in their own country, and it's war, so anything goes.

Firstly, the fact of the matter is that no war is "good" or ends with any "good" results. Every military action in history has resulted only in deep-seated resentment towards the factions involved and rows of bleached coffins in foreign soil. War is a necessity as there will always be threats to peace but this does not justify it's atrocities by any means. To say that because we took out Saddam makes the war "good" is dealing in absolutes and absolutes are what led to Auschwitz and hard-core Nazism. Iraq and Afghanistan will ultimately drain on the American public until the presidents approval ratings reach the -teens and he is forced to pull the soldiers out or face congressional sanctions or impeachment. This is a lesson the Romans, British, Italians, Soviets etc...have all learned and this is what will happen to the US now.
