Great fun with electricity! Dangerous, but great fun!

  • Brilliant!

This nut deserves praise. You gotta love his free spirited eccentricity. You gotta love those fat bolts of raw juice. Cool man!
All you need now is a woman who will actually accept your crazy self.

This isn't dangerous at all, as long as the frequency of the /- switching is high enough! And the electric bill won't be high either, since the tesla coil uses a transistor to "make" a high voltage and lower current.

    • Yea...

Even if the electricity is not dangerous, the magnetic field caused by the electricity can still more or less harm your health.

    • it can?

that I didn't know... could you please give me some kind of link or whatever to where you learned this? because I've never heared of magnetic fields being dangerous to humans...

    • World Health Organization (WHO)

      who.int /mediacentre /factsheets /fs299/en/ index.html

"acute effects are only likely to occur when there is movement in the field"

Yea..the thing is..your blood is constantly flowing and therefore moving.

    • I quote...

"Although only temporary, such effects may have a safety impact for workers executing delicate procedures (such as surgeons performing operations within MRI units).

Static magnetic fields exert forces on moving charges in the blood, such as ions, generating electrical fields and currents around the heart and major blood vessels that can slightly impede the flow of blood. Possible effects range from minor changes in heartbeat to an increase in the risk of abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmia) that might be life-threatening (such as ventricular fibrillation). However, these types of acute effects are only likely within fields in excess of 8 T.

It is not possible to determine whether there are any long-term health consequences even from exposure in the millitesla range because, to date, there are no well-conducted epidemiological or long-term animal studies. Thus the carcinogenicity of static magnetic fields to humans is not at present classifiable (IARC, 2002)."

ok, so a field the strength of an MRI machine can cause nausea... that's a 3T field at the very extreme. it says right there on the article that it's temporary... it's not a cumulative thing like radiation, the effects end completely when you walk away, and as far as the ventrical issues go, that says an 8T field... I'm not even sure how exactly one would create an 8T EM field, but I know it's not something you'd ever happen across on a daily basis, and if you did find one and it caused firillations, you would definetely notice, and they'd stop as soon as you walked away.

it also says long term effects can't be determined, but if there were long term effects from working in EM fields, your local electricians union would have won 40 bajillion dollars in a lawsuit by now I bet...

this whole article repeatedly states that people should take precautions against EM exposure because nobody knows what effects these fields have...
"While there are huge benefits to be gained from use of static magnetic fields, particularly in medicine, possible adverse health effects from exposure to them must be properly evaluated so that the true risks and benefits can be assessed. It will take some years for the required research to be completed. In the meantime, WHO recommends that national authorities set up programmes to protect both the public and workers from possible adverse effects of static fields."

in other words.. we don't know if it does anything, and can't prove wether it has any bad effects at all, and won't be able to for years, so you should try to protect yourself from nothing because we sorta think it might be bad for you... maybe... possibly....

there are also cars around, and one could hit you, so you should walk around wearing 800 pounds of nerf padding just in case....

if someone gets cancer from eating a certain kind of fish found only in the river behind their house and nowhere else is the world, the WHO gets blamed for the death because they should have known someh

  • hes a nut allright

He's what we call an Electromaniac

At least thats what im ganna say, his drive and addiction to elecricity caused him to build a giant tesla coil so he could be closer to his love.. yeup.. ok im kidding, but i do think he might be an electromaniac..

just cause Who burns down their house? Pyromaniac
Who builds a Giant Tesla coil and stares right at it? Electromaniac

  • Nice!

Ive been trying to build one for some time. Its not the voltage that can kill its the amps and since its a step up air resonant transformer...its produces very very little current therefore its practically harmless. I love electricity so much! I actually blew out a 15k transformer messing with home made caps. Dont forget to ground! ;)

PS.. What is that faraday cage made out of? Just fencing???

how much does he pay for electricity monthly? ;-)

By copile 1187961703 Reply Spam Moderate Up Moderate Down
    • nah

these machines dont use that much power. its about the same as using a microave or vacuum cleaner :) Maybe 10-15 amps.. when you step up voltage, you lose current. still makes a nice spark tho.
