Awesome video. You have some pretty cool usb devices under your belt.

    By Razorg606 1187805097
  • Voltage

But the USB voltage is only about 5.6 volts, and those fans are 12 volts, but i have got a fan and i plugded it in to a transformer at 6 volts and it is slower, so i suppose the fan will work but not to its full potnential

  • Cool idea

What kind of usb cable did you use? 5 stars

    By iambubba 1225636850
  • its great but here is some suggestion

if the air first moves into the tin then touches the ice and lastly gets out om the vacuum pressure of the fan, it will not have enough effect for cooling.

however, if the air moves into the tin from the side of fan, then it will touch the ice with more pressure and get cooler when it moves out.

alsoo I do not forget to give 5 stars ;)

the usb king! ;) cool vid!

  • Inaccurate

This would be what we in the HVAC industry call a "swamp cooler." Note there is no refrigerant involved? Try a 3' fan, 25 lbs of ice and 10 gallons of water in a self-contained unit with a small pump to drip the water between the fan and the mechanics using the device in Iraq.

    By SSGSid 1206142905
  • What...

What happens when the ice melts? Its got holes to ruin all your electrical equipment!

  • The Plug

Sure, let's create a device that can offer air conditioning to an already air conditioned house. Everyone has a USB port. If you are going to do this create a plug that goes into the wall instead of the computer.

    By Mormonastroscout 1193393660
  • it just a fan over ice

An actual air conditioning unit will pump out heat. Still an OK idea..

    By BigPhil 1187879430
  • dont try if you dont kno who to wire usb

if you dont wire the usb right, youre comp is going to shut down and never be able turn on again, thats happened to me.

    By kain1212 1187803931
  • What could go wrong, Lets see.

Ice melts, you got water. You accidentally knocked it over. Water shorts the 5v wire in the fan... A little smoke on your usb port... Fries the usb controller and probably the MB. Nice. Water and electronic don't mix, don't you already know? Use dry ice... What means it's not gonna be cheap like regular ice. Lose lose either way.

    By Doug_D 1187778184
    • uhmmm

thats besides the id and if u were gonna go through so much trouble to buy and store dry ice, just buy a AC for $40. The kind u use in tents that run of 12v car power...

      By cyco78 1187805432
    • or you could.....

cut a large piece of sponge to go in the lower compartment to absorb the water as the ice melts :D

      By poorguy707 1188349309
    • but

MODIFIED TO INCLUDE A DRAIN BASIN BENEATH THE ICE CHAMBER AND YOU CAN HAVE A COOL DRINK WHILE YOU GO TO GRAB MORE ICE. INGENUITY IS A NEVER ENDING PROCESS. GREAT WORK . KEEP IT UP

    By darkness lord 1187758338
  • Its Awsome

but increseing humility in air make uncomfortable, bcos, Aircondition inhaling the the humility in the air. and releasing the feon to the air.
but this is vice versa. any way. its really good for mosquito.
    good luck bro, nice invention,

    By ShfQ 1188790272
  • wow

great idea, mix ice with electronics. you know that turns into water, right?

    By occams 1188231878
    • and that's why

if you take a look in the can, the holes are over bottom level;)

      By Teol 1191167233
  • I don't see the point of this

You're not getting the heat anywhere. The ice come from the frig and the frig pump the heat back into your room.

Air conditioners work slightly different. They pump the heat out of the room.

    By lightblade 1187846753
    • Your collecting the heat in one region

The heat in the incoming air is used to excite the water molecules, thus melting the ice. In that sense, the heat (thermal energy) is converted into the kinetic energy of the water molecules moving around.
