That's pretty cool... 5 stars from me (you deserve them for the trouble you went to, buying potassium permanganate off eBay...) Another way to do this is to hold the match in pure fluorine gas... I think both methods are hugely useless though, since there's always that little strip on the side of the matchbox to help you out ;)

    • Interesting...

What I didn't mention although I should have was the main use of this... I used it as a magic trick in a show I performed. You have the rigged match in the matchbox and the glycerin on a piece of scotch tape that is taped to the the outside. You pretend to strike the match and 'accidentally' screw up and drop the matchbox. What the audience didn't see is that you dipped it in the glycerin. While the box is on the floor, you just hold the match up in the air and it lights on its own.

I'll remember to bring all those things to next campfire instead of just easily striking them...

Oh yes, I have plenty of Potassium Permangate laying around around the house. Where do you get stuff like that?

    • Lol.

I got mine off ebay. Doesn't cost too much. It's primary use is to kill bacteria without harming the fish in pond water I believe, so I would imagine it's also sold in pet stores.
