my comment was about the level of the soldiers training and not a political one. (although i think invading iraq was a mistake and a fight you cant win).

I am not an Iraqi, but I know that if a foreign nation ever sent her army to my nation, whatever that is, because my nation is rich in natural resources, I would give everything to throw the intruding army out. I am sure, if I were in america, and had my nation attacked by Iraqi army (say), I would have been an american insurgent. Would I agree then to being called a terrorist? So why should it be any different for an Iraqi?

Excitement is not what this is about. That clip showed something very natural...people fighting for justice.

The US has been at war with Iraq since 1991 when they invaded an ally of the US....Kuwait, to expand Iraq. The US came to Kuwait's defense and chased the Republican Guard back into southern Iraq when Saddam "surrendered" by signing a resolution agreeing to certain terms.....such as letting UN inspecters search for weapons. After giving Saddam over 20 opportunities to uphold his side of the agreement, the US gave him one last deadline in 2003 to cooperate with the UN and Saddam pretty much said he will never comply with the resolution he signed. Additionally, during the 10-yr cease-fire, Iraqi forces fired on US planes hundreds of times. The problem is that the US/UN should have went back into Iraq after the 1st time Saddam didn't comply with his surrender agreement....but Clinton had other things to worry about....like Hilliary!!

You generally know where the enemy is. You fire in their general direction (these projectiles can travel several football field lengths). The purpose of this is to keep the enemy's heads down lond enough for support to move in

Prior to Vietnam, the American military's practice was to only shoot at what you can see and likely hit, generally.
However, that got a lot of people killed because people we were fighting use cover and distance effectively. So we wouldn't shoot, but they would.
So now we have a support element who shoots at the enemy location, knowing they will probably not hit them. Their purpose it to prevent them from shooting back or from moving. They have to keep their heads down and stay behind cover to survive.
Seeing that through a camera and seeing it in real life are two very different things, believe me. Those gunners could see their targets around well past 500 yards in that kind of terrain. A hand-held camera isn't goign to pick that up with it's limited focusing abilities.

It would if there was something collateral to damage :).
That tactic is only for non-urban, un- or lightly populated areas like in the clip. You definitely don't use that in an urban environment. That's what our special forces are for. More precise, more surgical.
