These locks also open up with a kick. With one smooth movement, lift your leg high and kick downward, strike the projecting circular dial-knob with the back of the heel of your boot. They open after a few tries for rookies. But people who do this regularly can get them open in one move.

They issue these locks in the military. It is a fun game to kick them open, remove all of your buddies equipment, and then wait for him to discover the theft.

OR: invert the rank on his uniform. He won't notice... until someone asks him what his malfunction is. Very fun.

no tools needed
just hold you're ear close to the lock and turn the dial-knob you will hear it click if the pins open

For Loose Locks
This will only work with loose locks. I have a Brinks padlock, and the tolerances are so tight that even the thin metal of the popcan can't get in. I notice there's a notch in the far side of the slide as well as on the side that opens. I'm thinking that there is a bearing there that would need to be opened as well. The cheap combination lock would probably be a best case scenerio for this trick.

Can't get it to work...
I've made literally ten of these and I can't get it to work. I have the same kind of lock and my can thing looks exactly the same.

- The trick
  When you wrap the shim around the collar, pull the collar up all the way, then push the shim down... when you release your tension on the collar, the shim will be forced down into the lock, driving itself between the collar and the bearing inside, allowing you to pull out the collar.
