    I'm pretty sure when you put the nails in, in flips the coing upward. Making it fit inbetween the nails.

      If you do not know it works, think of this.

      This only works if you insert the pins in the sequence shown. Basically with each insertion, the coin is elevated at an angle slightly and with each succession of insertion, the coint will eventually stand on its edge. As such, there is plenty of room for the final center pin to punch through.
