In this video we create a simple version of Thomas Edison's early light bulb experiment.
i am using unbraided picture hanging wire, but can't get the same result as you and we are doing this as a 4th grade Science experiment. I have questions. Will you email me? I want to talk with you. amythemom@msn.com
Amy
i want to try this but i cant find out where to get the wires and or what theyre called n this was aweasome!!
By justin1009 1232593083 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe wire used was picture hanging wire. It comes stranded. Unwind the wire to get the single fine filament wire.
By Mr Science 1232596777 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI do agree that Thomas Edison is a businessman but that doesnt mean he did not invented the light bulb. Then if not, they have to rewrite the history ok? Anyway we could learn something from Edison, that is too much money corrupt mind and Edison is no excemption to this rule.
Sincerely yours,
Jolites (Philippines)
nice!

By Upiir 1189334108 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYour information is not correct. Thomas Edison's patents were based on Direct Current and he fought Tesla, a former employee, in the marketplace because Tesla promoted Alternating Current, which most of his patents were based on. Alternating current eventually won making Tesla somewhat famous.
In the end though Westinghouse owned all of Tesla's patents not Edison and Tesla died broke but had given us some of the greatest electrical discoveries that we still use today.
Both Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla were great men and great inventors and should be remembered that way.
It would be more accurate to say that Edison took existing lightbulb technologies (bought from Henry Woodward of Toronto), and modified it such that it used a Higher Resistance Carbon Filament, thus allowing it to last much longer. (And almost wasn't allowed the patent)
So I wouldnt say he invented it, just improved upon. Sort've like what BASF or 3M does (not that they don't invent things either).
But I have heard that recently a lot of his "inventions" are being put under the limelight to see if he did infact invent them, or if one of his employees did, or if they were stolen.
Really informative ...I will give it a try.
Keep it up
