One hell of a training!
Look at the clip from 2:48 to 2:51, you plainly see two tail fins. lol Anyway, he's right, 220 knot speeds, the F-16 is superior to the Mig-29, especially sustained turning. Slow speeds (below 200 knots) the Mig-29 has better maneuverability, usually with instantaneous turning. But, the F-16 is a better war machine for dogfights, because FAST speeds are where you want to be in a real fight; it's known fact, the slower you are, the 'deader' you will be. So sorry guys, F-16 is actually superior to the Mig-29. :) Oh, you know why German Mig-29's beat F-16s? It's because of their HMS (helmet mounted sight), not because the Mig-29 supposedly got more nose shots on the F-16. The U.S. has JHMCS now, so the German mig-29s will have no advantage over us now. :)
By Northax 1162421242 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei heard that fast speed's ain't u need in a turning fight. I heard that that there is some optimal speed, which leads to the best turn, thus givin u an edge.
So, pilots, what do u have to say on this??? M i right in sayin so???????
Too fast and you pull too many g's and put too much stress on the planes airframe; too slow and you bleed your energy level. So, yes, there is an optimal turn speed but it differs from fighter jet to fighter jet. It is a known fact that the F-16 Fighting Falcon is the greatest dogfighter in the world in a tight turn at high g's, and so that is where falcon pilots try to overcome another plane. Its all about getting the enemy to fight your fight. If the Mig fights the fight of an f16, its going to lose; if an f16 fights the fight of a Mig, its going to lose.
By odessaboy 1201631466 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveA U.S. F-16 pilot himself said (and he flew both Mig-29 and F-16, so he knows better than anyone) that the F-16 is superior to the Mig-29 in 220 knot speeds; he says he powered above the Mig-29 and got way more shots on it this way, especially the F-16s ability to sustain higher speed turns. Many people never know the full story about German Mig-29s vs. American F-16s, so they just say "Mig-29s beat F-16s in NATO exercizes so much" stuff, yet they didn't hear that Mig-29s have HMS, which is a huge advantage in WVR (within visual range) dogfights. Now, again, the U.S. has JHMCS, which is actually much superior to the Russia HMS, so I'd like to see them go at it again. I bet the F-16's will come out on top. :)

By city_cyfer 1189083776 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveA nice modern Dog fight, I wonder if the MIG 29 ever got behind the falcon at all???? I hope that wasn't the real footage of the ejection at the end of the excercise there.
By dancira 1145565937 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI think that getting in the back of MiG-29 is more difficult than the other way round. Did you ever see anything from the MiG-29's cockpit?
On the other side, the last scene only shows the superiority of MiG-29's ejection system - this scese was taken from an air-show, you know and has nothing to do with training fights!
The ejection footage was taken from an airshow accident ,totally unrelated!
By hulkster 1146193174 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWe don't just train NATO pilots in Germany with mig 29's and practice with them, but America purchased eighty Fulcrums after the fall of the USSR to keep Iran from getting them and to train American pilots on how to best fight the mig 29.
By odessaboy 1201631874 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveBut one-sided. That's because you only see the MIG-29 through the HUD of the F-16, and not even once the other way around. And the final insult is that the clip ends with an unrelated MIG-29 at the Paris Airshow in 1989. It was a very good footage, but with blatantly biased editing.
By major_gunner 1159648508 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethis video is so cool but the Mig-29 is much superior than F-16. more powerfull (2 engines) more maneuvrable (see the size of the command surfaces). but pls tell me some1 what music is playng in this video background:D. thx guys
By 1154695115 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe music is fine. The video is nothing but a not-so-fine piece of editing. The plane being chased had a single tailfin, unlike the two tailfins of a Fulcrum. My presumption is it was another Falcon. The last part, with the Mig29 crashing is actually an amateur video shot at a Paris airshow, where the Russians first tried to sell their machine to paying customers. This video shows two things:
a) The skills of the Russian pilot who managed to pull his plane up even with its engines on fire and safely bail out. As far as I know, he got off with nothing but bruises.
b) The genious of the Russian engineers who designed the fighter. As a matter of fact, they have performed rejected take-off tests, making sure the pilot can eject with the plane at Vr on the runway. This has not been achieved by any Western fighter hitherto.
Moreover, the F16 pilots fear the Fulcrum. "If it didn't take you down it will go away," they say. The Fulcrum can outmaneuver and outrun any Western aircraft but the F22, the development of which is still underway. The only advantage of a Falcon is its avionics, but it comes to nothing once the Fulcrum gets close enough. The countermeasures of the Fulcrum, including the radar jammer and the low heat signature, are sure to ward off any missiles shot at it.
Though the Russians do not advertise it, the engines of the Fulcrum can stand it on its tail -- a feat now attempted by the F22 Raptor.
When you post videos with such a clear message (the Fulcrum crashing after allegedly being shot by the Falcon), please describe it as "my first steps in video editing". Otherwise, you're only making an ass of yourself
russian engines noted for giving a very high heat signiture and the aircraft has the radar signiture of a small mountain. you know what raptor pilots say about migs? Next.
By S_c_burke 1182498669 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe thing is the Mig-29 is superior to the F-16 only at lower speeds, but once you reach higher end speeds the F-16 maintains its instantaneous turn rate, wherease most planes can't hence claiming that the Mig-29 is superior to the F-16 is wrong. Both of the aircrafts have their own advantages.
The Pilot factor is really important too, these days the US pilots arnt' as good as the German ones, in this vid I think it must have been an ace US pilot versus a rookie German one, because average US pilots generally get trashed in dogfights by the Germans.
Simple, The F-16 and Mig-29 have similiar charactoristics, The mig-29 is not "outdated" It has been continually updated by the Bundesweh. With that being said the F-16 does not S**k If you don't know what you are talkign about SHUT THE F**k UP. And mshoa, Are you insane? You are telling me, an armed forces member, that our pilots aren't trained as well as the German's, maybe you are forgetting F-14 and F-16 pilots have actually helped train the Luftwaffe, and this video itself is just a training excercise. We learn from each other, honestly we are about the same, except our flyboys are more numerous. So shut the F**k up, thank you.
By 11 Bravo 3/23 1165094816 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeinteresting, reading through, i though i'd chime in. Having some experience against the Mig 29. The fight comes down to the pilot v pilot. Planes are pretty well matched, except at or below corner the F16 can accomplish some manuevers and turning rates not widely known. Completely turning 180 degrees pretty well instantly, from an onlookers perspective the F16 appears to bend in half, it turns that fast, best i can describe it. Also altitude play large part Mig has some advantages high up but at that alititude i would be BVR anyway, not to mention my escape vector is enormous, forget a 1 or 2 circle fight. Tactics tactics tactics make the enemy fly your fight!!!
By viper01 1170809360 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveTHE FACT IS THAT MIG-29 IS MUCH SUPERIOR THAN F-16. IT WAS PROVED IN SEVERAL EXERCISES HELD BY NATO. GERMAN LUFTWAFFE'S MIG-29S BEATEN UP OTHER NATO'S F-16S.
By -MiG_29- 1150942671 Reply Spam [-1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSixteen is generation higher than Mig-29, b4 Ivan will see F-16 his plane will be a great ball of fire ...
By russia_is_overrated 1164876418 Reply Spam [+2] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe F-16 became operational in 1979 with its maiden flight in 1974. The Fulcrum became operational in 1984 and was their response to the F-16. They are of the same generation.
The F-16 is better at high speeds which is where you want to be in terms of your energy level, but at low speeds a good pilot can have the edge in a fulcrum.
Yep, I see other article: the mig-29s beaten in all time the f-16s in red-flag tournament in USA. Your noise allways in ass of F-16s! and...boom!
This video is nice, but not realy! sorry americans! change your dreams for F-22, mabe him can anything...
but dont forget...the SU35 and SU37 wait for him..
save the pilot and the fuel. if they wait in the air when the f22 shows up the only way they will know is by the missile lock on them. so please don't sacrifice your brave pilots just so the f22 pilots can run up thier score. I don't want to have to listen to them bragging about becoming ace's at some poor sukhoi pilots expense.
