The weapon is either a M-16 or an M-4 (carbine version of M-16), not a Thompson.
It does not have a Silencer, it's a Flash Suppresor.

Sorry to say although the gun is deffinetly not a Thompson as some suggested is also is not an M16 or M4....The M16 and M4 do not have Drum mags, instead they use C-Mags when a lot of ammo is needed. Maybe the drum mag is what made people think Thompson like the ones seen on the classic Gangster Chicago Typewriter Thompsons...also it has woodgrips. The reality is that gun was AK variant, given that it was shortened my best guess is its an AK-74U with a drum mag attached.
