    say my email is abc@gmail.com? Gmail has the ability to let you change the address, and still get to your inbox. Say you have to register for a hotmail email address, well you can give them your modified email address: abc+hotmail@gmail. . . . it will STILL come to you, and its valid, but IF you get anything using THAT modified address (but not specifically from hotmail), you will know for sure that hotmail SOLD your email address
