Behind the ear, or BTE hearing aid devices have three primary parts: a case, earmold and tubing. Each part has a specific function. The plastic casing is typically where the audio electronics are housed and contain a microphone that picks up sounds in the environment and augments them as necessary. The sound then travels through the hollowed plastic "pipeline" into the plastic earmold, which contains a receiver.
