Why would you do the white side incorrectly first? Just put the pieces in the right places the first time... it will save you pointless corrections and is just plain easier. I just do the middle edge cubies first, then the corners... faster times, less frustration. ;)

hello i made the whole cube but i m stuck in one place...i cant solve the last 2 edges..everytime i make the cube my 2 edges are in correct..sometime sthey r opposite n sometimes they r side by side ,but they wudnt come in rite place..HELP..even the bottom layer is completely solved

The most stupid algorithms I have ever seen so far is your video.the only way yours is faster is doing the first layer of the corners,Your other algorithms for every step is longer then anyone's videos I have seen so far by 2-4 extra's turns in any others video's,i haven't ever seen them never turn the front side.When I do the bottom row I have the T completed at the same time.I am very new at this but I bet I could beat your fastest time with my way and with less steps,My way there only 6-7 steps your was way more and longer algorithms.I am not meaning to be mean or meaning to hurt your feelings just found your way not making much sense.especial when you shown moving a middle one that was flipped in a very difficult way much faster and easy to understand UI,LI,U,L,U,F,UI,FI I just say to myself ULULUFUF and only need to remember the first 2 and last 2 are counter clockwise. or U,R,UI,RI,UI,FI,U,F for the right side.I found your way more complicated

okay, i did the algorithms to get the fish and i got a two headed fish... with two yellow squares underneath the top layer to do the next algorithm with and this gets me nowhere ive tried and miserably failed. im wondering how to get around this?

BUT i had a problem where u do the fish....before i do anything there wasnt a arrow so when i do the spinny move it doesnt work and i get random pictres and stuff

I am 36 years old, and I bought a Rubiks as part of my sons Christmas present. I always wanted to know how to solve it, my partner could do the first layer and the T, as he was showing me it was going WAY over my head, it was yeah but how the hell did you know it went there and how did you get it there!!!!!! anyway we searched the internet and we watched others tutorials then we came across your web site it was the first one that we could actually comprehend... I found your tutorial easy to follow, It is the best one i've seen, yours is definately for BEGINNERS!!!! I think some of the other people that have made tutorials have forgotten what its like not to know ANYTHING about the way a cube moves etc.... In a couple of weeks I was solving the cube in 7 mins, when I got comfortable about how the cube works I look for other vids that showed me how to solve it quicker!!! I can now solve the cube in under 2 mins thanks to your tutorial!!!!!!! Oh my partner still gets stuck with his cube hahaha!!!!

Nevermind, i tried it on a different rubik's cube and it works everytime, but i can never do it on mine. I don't know why, i think it's broken somehow, im gonna get a new one and see if i can do it on that one.

Great tutorial but sometimes i have problems getting the fish. Does the L have to be alone to get the fish and is there any other way to get it? Sometimes i can get it really quick, but other times i can't get it at all.

I was just given a 5x5 and am now learning the 3x3 in order to be able to solve it.
Your tutorials are very easy to follow and I am sure I will have no trouble solving the 3x3 now.
Then I will move on to the 4x4 and finally the 5x5.
I would like to see you make a video on the 5x5 so I can use it as a reference when I get to that point.

Dude, this is by far the best tutorial on the web bar-none. i also just got an account with Metacafe just so that i could personally thank you. i have tried several times with others on the web with no luck. all the LU,FR.....blah blah blah stuff makes it soooo hard but your way works. one thing though, you mess up on 19:45 of the video you say "the right side up" but you actually move the left side up. i still got it by looking at what you were doing. Awesome job and keep up the great work. Finally got it!!!

Alright, i learned how to do this but sometimes i get stuck on the 2nd move. i will have the middles of two sides right next to each other then the other two are not finished... its like i have blue and blue on one side and orange and orange on the one next to it but on the others its red green and green red, but i can never seem to fix it... Plz help.

amazing tutorial, got it solved in about an hour. thanks so much. one problem though. im stuck at the whole "fish part" i know how to get it if the L is already there but what about if its like a line of cubes or like 4 in a square? which "algors" do you use to get the fish. my current method is do the two algoriths randomly until the fish appears...sometimes it takes one..sometimes twenty. haha

ok on the green side on the top in order from left to right i have green, blue, orange

orange side yellow yellow yellow

blue side blue green orange

red side blue red red

on the top when i look at the red side and go up to the yellow i see from top to bottom red orange green next 2 rows are yellow

and i really need the fish so plz help with maybe a video or somethin :D

on the last part i cant get the fish please help i have all the too bottom and ya i really need help :P

makes the most sense to me compared to the other tutorials....it was good to see you making the moves as you explained it, (again, best in my opinion), made me look at the cube in a different way.

I have a big problem. Your tutorial has helped me tremendously. I can solve the cube to about 90%, however, I always run into the same problem. Your "solve for the fish" method never completely works for me. I always end up with one piece that is yellow and w/e else being in the correct row, the row with the yellow face, but flipped wrong, with the yellow side of the piece facing not up, but towards me. This is a problem I can not figure out. I really appreciate your tutorial and if you are kind enough to help me with this problem it will only be extra, I already think you're great.

i had added a comment before about this, never saw it post, but seems when all corners are correct, but the centers are reversed, the "shortcut it seems is to do the algorythm slyy showed that he starts off with "don't know how to say this but turn the front upside down", after completing that 1 side will be completed, and then repeat that same step to finish.

this has happened several times to me following your tutorial, when solving the yellow side, and beaing near the last few algorythms, i get where all the corner peices match and the centers are on opposite sides, is there a easy way to fix that? i think the way i solved the problem before was using your parity method for the center side, ( hence messing the cude way back up), for 2 opposite edge centers, then gettting back to the L and fish

When I am doing the fish.. I am not getting all the yellow colors.. I am getting lost there not understanding what's wrong there, but I am very happy atleast I am coming close to the solving of a rubik cube.. I spent 4 hours today to get to that point.. nice explanation there.... thank you.. but my fish is coming in a different shape and I am getting confused there.. please help....

if you use the jesica fridrich method wiih thecross and the corresponding colors that will cut your solve time down. for me about a minute probaly

i can do one in like 2-3 minutes cause of you!!

hint: combing the fridrich method(the cross) really helps! you can get the t's faster

Yesterday, I bought a cube for my ten-year-old son and made the mistake of showing him the checkerboard trick I remembered from childhood. Within minutes of buying the thing, he managed to make it into a huge mess -- trying to copy my trick. I'd never solved a cube before, and went looking for help on the web. there is one easy way to solve to it in youtube....

and about the algorithms, just don't mind it...focus on the steps just like i did

As a Rubik's cube slover myself, I believe I have the right to make some comments. Your first layer explanation was very good, well done for that. I do the second layer a completely different way, with one ultra simple algorithim. Your way does work, however it is very round-about. I line it up on the side it's supposed to be, so that it makes a T. (I don't flip the cube upside-down.) Then, if I'm moving it to the left, I do left up, bottom towards, left up, bottom towards, left up, bottom away, left down, bottom away, left down. Also, for when there's a middle edge stuck in the wrong orientation, i just mess up a corner to bring it to the bottom, do the algorithim, fix the corner, and redo the algorithim. It might be a couple moves lonver, but it is much quicker hand motions. I dont get your last side method at all. I first solve for a yellow cross with either a backwards L or horizontal line: the L: Front right, top right, right up, top left, right down, front left. Line: Front right, right up, top right, right down, front left. Then I switch corners the same way you do. Then i do the fish thing, except sometimes you need to do the same thing with opposite direction turns. If there isn't a fish, you just do either direction until you get a fish - you can figure out patterns eventually. Finally, i switch the center edges the same way you do. I've taught many people, and I think that the way I do it is very effective. Your way is great too, but i is a little counter-productive. I tried to make a tutorial, but it didn't work out as well as yours. You did a great job, congratulations. However, i would apreciate it if you could look at my way and comment on it. Thanks!

I've been using your method for a few weeks now, just solving the cubes whenever I'm bored and I found something... a special situation where, after the top face has been solved, the rest doesn't work... it just keeps on repeating itself... still don't know how to get out of it yet...

hey i was just wondering. on the step after you make the T, and you are trying to fill in the center edges pieces, once you have moved the appropiate color into that slot, and then you have to find somewhere where it doesnt work to put the white back up, um, what do u do if there is nowhere that does not fit, and all of them work?

Its not 100% in dept but after messing around with the algorythms it all makes sense, so all you other people stuck on this, mess around with the algorythm, take it step by step, practice each step! I somehow wasn't that impressed with finishing it...

When do you use the 2 algorithms shown to solve the yellow side? For example, i understand that using the "spinny move" after having the fish will give you the completed yellow side, but when else would you use it and when do u use the second algorithm? Also, what side of the cube should face you when using the second 1?

Ok, yeah... so I got to 17:35 in your vid and there's no yellow to either the left or right.
But the "Fish" is kinda, a fish.well, this is what the top looks like

I started with a Yankee Rubik's Cube, since it is the only one i have.
when i finished one side, the first row of the T is all done already. However, i don't know how to get the middle piece of the second row of the T, since i don't recall u having to do it.

That was brilliantly display of solving the cube with simple moves. Just remember it and will solve most problems !!

By far the bets cube solving video out there. Plus, he made the 2x2x2 and 4x4x4 solutions. It used to take me 15-20 minutes to solve the 3x3. Now I can do it in under 3 minutes. It used to take me ~10 minutes to do the 2x2, now I can do that one in less than 2 minutes. I'm still working on the 4x4. I can solve it with my little cheat sheet I made from the directions. I still haven't memorized the two algorythms at the end (parity and the two sets of reversed squares).

I'd be interested in seeing the 2-gen, 4-gen and 6-gen algorythms you spoke of...

I just ordered the 5x5x5 cube. Never played with one, but I'm looking forward to it. You gonna make a video of that one? :)

is twice as long as it needs to be! It's redundant. he just randomly puts all the white pieces on the same side, then he lines them up afterward. SO much easier if you just put them all in the right place to begin with. do the white middle pieces first, then the corners. this way you eliminate TONS of moves and your first side is done and all lined up properly.

dont generalize the asians ^_^ im asian and i can solve the rubix cube like dogs can purr.

um.. maybe you can throw in some of the rubix tricks too... like the checker pattern or the everything solved but the centers swapped thingy...

umm.. i was solvin the 3x3 with your tutorial and i came to a case where i got the fish.. but the peice that was supposed to be where im supposed to do a spinny move was not there... what do i have to do in those situations? I got around by doin the algorithms till i scramble the peices again but is there any short method for that? thanks man! nice vid.. got it a five

Dude..I almost had it..but at the fish step my yellow was on the right when you had it on the left on your video...and I couldnt figure out the spinning move that way !!

Practice this and replay it about 3-4 times and you will now be able to intertain your friends. It still takes me about 5 minutes
