Back on August 24, 2005 the 2nd story of the house in our backyard that was our mortgage-helper burnt down (the first floor was saved thanks to our fantastic volunteer fire department) After jumping through many bureaucratic hoops to obtain a building permit to simply repair it as a single story utility building, we finally managed to start that process on September 8th 2007.

This time-lapse video shows the end stages of removing the old floor joists, erecting the trusses, sheathing, and shingling the new roof over a 6 day period (time-lapsed into 3:26).

  • 7 days for that roof?

It's insane that it took you a week for such a small roof. And at a 4/12 pitch? Not to be critical, but my crew and I (total 4 guys) would have had that thing up in 2 days.

    • It was our first time...

Probably a crew of 4 guys who had ever done it before sure - this wasx our first time - plus we had to take off the old fire-damaged floor first and there was only my wife and I doing it - so we're pretyt pleased with our progress...

    • My apologies.

You said it was in your backyard, you didn't say it was you who built it. For a first timer, you did alright. Sorry to hear about the structures demise. We built a large structure a few years ago, and when the couple who hired us got a divorce, the husband went nuts and burned down the house, garage, and his wifes car. He didn't want to do a split in court, so he figured nobody would get anything. Did you rebuild anything after the fire?

The video is not about who is the fastest at assembling a roof. It is about showing the process of construction. Of course there are people who are faster. Although it really depends on all the variables. Some of which you may not have taken into consideration having just seen the video from this angle etc.
