MacGyver Style DIY Tip

Saw it done on survivorman the other night. Well done Colin.

Just in case someone didn't see it in the description or on several digg comments I posted, my son got this idea from an episode of survivor man on the Discovery Channel. We shot it to test it out because he wanted to try it. I was impressed that it actually worked!

with this video. He saw it on TV and wanted to try it to see if it worked. Obviosly it does! Great job Colin!!!

I guess if I was lost without water I'd do it too! BTW Colin said the water didn't taste bad at all after it was boiled!

to remove sand, dirt and sediment... you can add a few sprigs of mint or evergreen leaves for flavor. Watch for smoke inhalation though. Safe water means nothing if you can't breath.

Staph aureus' toxin is not inactivated by boiling. You may kill the bacteria itself but you will still have massive diarrhea.

wow this good trick if you got lost and your clean water run out. without clean water. there is only the mud water, What should you do? :) I learn and will drink it. I rate 4 Star.

TS TOTALLY STUPID!! NO OFFENSE, BUT I CANT ASK IN OTHER WAY: ARE YOU IDI0TS?!!

1. Bottle is a Polyethylene(PET) or Polyvinilochlorid (PVC). Although its certified for drink liquids, it is not stable below 100C and with a fire temperatures of >1000C a LOT of toxins comes to dirt together!! A LOT OF!!!

2. PET/PVC plastic is NOT suited for water heating. Thats why best kettle is made of steel or sometimes special plastic. The bottle itself is made of THIN material and has a LARGE surface. The water WILL NEVER reach boiling point by any means!! Almost no bacteria will be killed!

In the end you have lost an hour and got dirty, infected water toxicated. This will be truly "most tasty water you have drunk in your life" and the last one! Amen! DON NOT DRINK IT!!!

There are several HEALTHY methods to get a fresh water from mud. Distillation.
1. Collect only water on the surface.
2. You need 1 or 2 used,clean METAL(!) dose(s) and one bottle(if only one dose); matches; some wood; wires/thread; medium clean sheet of metal/steel or any other surface able to quickly cool off the condensed water.

Place water into the metal dose, fixate it with wire and wood over the fireplace. Fill the dose with water. place another dose/bottle near the first on the ground. Fixate a sheet of metal slightly above it, so that one side of it covers dose on fire and another covers other dose at ANGLE, forming a .

Start the fire and the water will quickly boil and condensate itself on the metal, cooling off and dropping into another dose.
When finished throw the empty dose away.

That way you have a clean distilled water.
You can use this tactic even to produce water from your pee(!!!) if you want and it will be drinkable, clean water as well. Its not a joke.

Sometime when you have some friends around a fire take a styrofoam cup with water and set it right next to the fire. It will not melt at all until it boils the water or fluid out. My uncle showed me this trick a long time ago and at first I thought he was nuts.

but u can expect in 5 min. to S**t yourself hard....

in the water clog up ur exit XD

you should also ad that rigorous spinning will seperate some of the sediment making it better tasting.

Last time I checked heating water bottles releases a large amount of carcinogens... Great for an emergency but I would not suggest doing it for fun. Same with water bottles left in the car but not to the same extent.
