I wass doing pre-heat an thing blew up in mi hand. My hand hurts so, badly. One finger hang off & bleed badly. I go to hospital noww. Poor Fernandoooo.

No, don't use cotton balls, they'll burn. The whole point of using the fiberglass is because it won't burn.

Everclear works very well, burns clean, and lasts a good time.

Just don't drink any before trying to make the stove or it will end up looking like something that fell off a car on the freeway!

What about the possibility of fuel leakage from that home made stove? Also,what about the vailidity and durability of the fiberglass? Finaly,what about security of that stove ?

I made this stove EXACTLY as you told me but ended up slicing my arm off with the utility blade!!! Then when i tried to preheat the stove it blew up taking my other arm off!!!!! So i watched the video again and tried it again but this time blew both my F**king legs off !!!!!! 5 STARS

There are other designs out there, but this one is by far the easiest to make.

Everclear is expensive, but burns well and you can drink it.

Even after stretching the bottom lip a little, I had to use the shim to put it together.

Especially here in Colorado. We are almost always on fire restrictions.

It only took about 5 minutes.

Your snow cream video is great! You should delete it and re-submit just as we start getting snow again. It should be popular enough to get thousands of views in a day or two!

It's portable. It's mostly for backpacking or camping emergencies, like when camp fires are not allowed.

Sterno is good, but it's heavy.

Everclear (150 proof drinking alcohol), Isopropyl Alcohol (get at least 91% at Walgreens or another pharmacy), or denatured alcohol (methyl spirits).

Denatured alcohol works best.

It's made of around 90 % methanol. You can find it in almost any gas station.

This particular stove is easy to put out, much like a candle. It will also burn itself out within about 10 minutes at most.

Adding more Heet doesn't really effect the flame, just makes it burn longer. There are mods where you can insert a small ring with holes beneath the rim of the stove. When you turn the ring it makes the holes the flame comes out of larger or smaller, making your flame larger or smaller.

The flame is small to start with, it takes about a minute to get going, but this thing really isn't for simmering. Make the water hot, dump in your dehydrated hiker food, cook it as fast as you can because you are hungry.

I haven't heard gas used that way in a long time!

That's actually what I used. I just grabbed some from the basement isulation.

If you don't use an alcohol based fuel, the stove could easily explode. Petroleum based fuels are too volatile.

The other fuels that work well are denatured alcohol (also called methyl spirits - find it at a paint store), everclear (the kind you drink - 150 proof), and 91% rubbing alcohol.

I listed those in order of efficiency. Denatured alcohol burns the hottest and lasts the longest.

If you use denatured alcohol, a few tablespoons will easily boil a couple of pots of water before burning through all the fuel.

One little bottle of HEET will last you several camping trips.

This little guy isn't very wind proof as shown.

The windscreen also keeps the heat focused up into the stove. I liked using just a piece of aluminum foil that I could wrap around the base of my pot. This saves probably about 30-40% of the heat that otherwise would escape out the sides.

You want the stuff that is 91% or higher. Walgreens sells it.

Otherwise, it burns very yellow and leaves a lot of soot. It's also not very efficient and you will burn through a lot more of it faster.

..that's a different type of can stove.

This one is pressure based.

As shown, it will burn just long enough to boil a pot of water, or about 5 minutes.

You can easily make it last longer by making it bigger and use more efficient fuel like denatured alcohol.

The can is nearly indestructible. Aluminum won't melt at these temperatures.

I used about three tablespoons of HEET to biol that pot of water. If I had used denatured alcohol, I could have easily boiled two pots, as it burns much more efficiently.

These little buggers are extremely rugged and long lasting. I have read that people have used the same can stove for 20 years!
