Showing off the interactive LED coffee tables from EvilMadScientist and BecauseWeCan (with a little help from JellyBean).
It reacts to things around it, using LEDs that light up whenever something gets near the table.

    • RE: A couple of questions if you wunt mi

      >1. how many led's?
      That version has 640 LEDS.

      >2. how many light sensors?
      That version has 32 sensors.

      >3. what do you power it all from? (mains or battery)
From mains, takes 60 W max.

      4. how long to make?
Making the electronic part from the kit takes (me) about 8 hours; actual assembly time depends a lot on skill and experience.

  • very nice..

I would only recommend 2 things.

    1. a frosted cover. [available in various solid colors] the bulbs and circuits are an eyesore and make it look cluttered and too "make-it-yourself". the covers would add to the mysticism. i don't know if that's a word, but if it isn't , it is now.

    2. make the ripples spread and disappear faster. it would make the light look like water and less clumsy as it does now. or at least allow settings for the flashing speed.

    kudos.

    • Of course...

If you get one of the tables, a frosted top is a standard option. From what we've seen, it seems to be about 50/50 people who prefer to look at the circuits or would prefer a frosted top. I happen to like how the circuits look, and the one in our house has a clear glass top.

We've actually been working to slow down the response and make it dissipate more slowly. (It's actually much easier to make it die off faster.) Much of the clumsiness is due to the response of the video camera, which makes it look much flashy than it is in reality.

    • Yes, Evil Mad....

These are hand made art pieces, designed for optimal coolness; the parts cost a lot and these are labor intensive to make. We're also selling kits for just the electronic portion now.
