Dear Lord please bless the poor child with beautiful mind. Please give the child a chance to see this world though as an orphan yet to grow up with pride and wisdom to serve great Lord so to guide us all towards eternity. Give the child education.

I cant believe someone could be so damn heartless to do that to a innocent baby. Not only could the poor child have drowned, it could have suffociated. There is no reason for anyone to harm a child like that. Whoever did this should be tied up in a bag just like that and set adrfift in the ocena to die. What do you want to do with the murderers? Don't say maybe you got the wrong person. We are assuming here that you know 100% that you have the criminal. What would you like to do with them? Keep in mind A) you don't want them to do this or anything like this again, and B) you don't want other people to do this or anything like this again.

There are two standard ways to force criteria A, 1) Jail, 2) Kill them. Other ways to discorage this might be a fine, a lashing, or the stocks. The fine is just not enough for this, and we can't do the other two anymore. Most likly you bleeding hearts are gona opt for the jail.

Now think about what that means. You are going to make society pay for the food, shelter, guards, etc. while these perps rot away in jail. The amount is not the issue here (though it is not cheep to keep prisoners) the concept of making the rest of society pay for what these people did is a slap in the face of Justice.

And how do the two most common forms of punishment (jail and exicution) stack up when considering issue B? If you take the percieved risk of an action down the action will be commited more often. Jail discorages to a degree, but not enough for this kind of action. Exicuting the perps may well save the lifes of many potential victims of similar crimes, because the criminals will consider the risk of consequences too great. Make the consequences so horible that no one will ever think to risk it and the problem will vertually be eliminated from your society. So long as you are willing to enforce the law with a sword and not a band-aid criminals will fear the law.

Kill them if you catch them. Make the perps ride the lightning and you will find less babies in the sewers, rivers, and dumpsters. Justice should be feared.

There will always be criminals because. Criminals think they will not be caught. That is why crimes like this will not stop. If they are jailed they will have all of the rest of their lives to think about what they have done and if it was worth rotting in jail for. There ya go.

Man, I don't believe in any organised religion myself but I know enough to know not to pick fights with Christian folk and point holes in their beliefs. lol. It makes no odds to me what they believe, as long as they don't try pushing it on me I'll let them believe in peace.

since it'll start out so far down on the list, but don't blame God for man's shortfalls. This is a very cursory and superficial explination, but... He has to allow things like this in order to allow free will. If he did not allow people to kill, hurt, maim, etc (even to innocents) then free will would not exist. If we let Him, He can bring about some good even from tragedy.

The whole point is that life "is" and "should be" "free will." If "God or a Creator, etc" we're to constantly intervene or interfere with everything that goes on in life then we would be nothing more than controlled puppets or a chess game or toys for God to manipulate. Just as parents know that at some point they have to let their children roam free in the world and cannot and should not stay glued to their side for the rest of their lives to protect and control them from experiencing a truly free life of their own, so it would / should be with God or a Great Creator. Regardless of potentially bad things that may happen in a free willed world, it is still better than being a pre-destined pawn or toy. Free will = life. control / manipulation = a game.

God didn't throw that baby in, some1 made a choice to do that. Why, I don't know but they will give an account when they die. God gave us free will to make choices, right or wrong. You can't blame him for the wrong ones. Do you credit him for the good ones?

There very well may be a God, someone or something beyond human comprehension. What I cannot believe is that "God" is the Being that all organized religion believes "Him" to be; that is, someone Who micromanages human affairs, decides who dies and who lives, how many bones an accident victim will break, etc. The Universe is just too grand for us to be that important. Some posters have said when I die I will be sorry I didn't "plan" to be (inevitably) proven wrong; my reply is that I don't need to "plan" I simply lead a good honest moral life! (You know, the Golden Rule" covers all of it!)

To be quite honest, people who profess to know the Bible and say God is intimately in control of people right now and their lives are ignorant of some things. The God of the Bible is allowing us to live in his Grace right now. He is kinda hands off compared to the Old Testament. Thats why you have the hurricanes and such happening. It isn't because God is mad at anyone... he isn't showing his wrath right now because when he does it will be world wide and cataclysmic. As for why God doesn't control everything... he had to make humans with the ability to chose. If you take out choice, you remove love. He wanted a creature that could love him. Unfortunately, most choose not to and people chose to do evil rather than good. As for living by the golden rule... I am afraid that won't cut it. Nothing you do will ever get you into heaven or make you a freind of god. Man's righteousness is like filthy rags in God's eyes. It's all based on where your faith lies. And that faith needs to be in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and believing that he died on the cross for our sins, was in a tomb for three days and rose again. Anything other than that, won't amount to a hill of snot... according to the Bible of course. Salvation = Faith Nothing

The FALLACY of Christianity is the insistence by its followers, that it is the "only way" How in the world can so many believe that GOD HIMSELF, incarnated HIMSELF, came here and let us KILL HIM? Well... something you have to understand. Christians don't go around telling you that you aren't going to make it because we just came up with that concept all on our own. It's in the book in which we believe. The book says it. And if the book says it, and we believe the book, well...

I find it wierd how some people can't believe God could manifest himself in the flesh and die for us... but yet, they will believe that we all came from a rock 10 billion years ago. But God gave us choice. And you can very well chose what you want to believe. I won't argue with you.

The problem is: all, you "bookists" keep referring to the "Book" written by HUMANS! You know every line, ever chapter, every "VERSE!" Is that a prerequisite for dismissing "all of recorded history" or just "religious historical events?" Don't get me wrong, I'm not religious (I'm spiritual) and have never read "The Bible" or any other historical religious books, but am aware of the stories of "Noah's Ark" and the "Parting of the Sea" etc..and would say there is a lot of symbolism in those stories. However, I just thought it was funny that you related the "time period" and "age of the historians" in determining histories accuracy or inaccuracy. And just know that I'm just busting on you in a lighthearted way, lol

A true Christian believes that the people who wrote "the book" were inspired to do so by God Himself, and it is not their words, but His that are written there. As for the "chapter & verse" people, they bug the crap out of me - always spouting off little quotes instead of actually THINKING about what anyone else says. Mostly they look for ways to say "you are wrong!" instead of finding common ground with anyone. Damn - got on the soapbox again. Damn damn damn!!!

I am a pretty regular guy. I like to watch football. I drink a beer with my buddies now and then. I like rock music. I like to watch boxing and Ultimate FIghting Championships. I have friends that don't believe the Bible, have friends that do. If you don't believe the Bible that's fine. God gives you that right and that choice and It would profit me nothing to sit and argue with someone about it. The only thing I could do is pray for that person.

and kudos if you are not a "thumper" type of Christian. If you read the above posting, you will see that I do believe the Bible, but perhaps in a different way than many. It is intended to teach people how to live and behave according to God's will, not to have every word taken literally. For example, you mention “The Lord’s Prayer” (at least that’s what Protestants call it) in one of your postings. There is something that bothers me about “churches” and that prayer; I believe it was set forth as an example of how to pray, not something to be repeated mindlessly (which is what most people do.) Most organized religions seem to be more about dogma than God. They are very self-serving and tend to promote the thumper types (“Bookists” as some of my friends here call them.)

I too believe that the "Lord's Prayer" was for an example. The Bible is plain on not repeating a prayer over and over as unbelievers do. In fact, it says you should pray hidden and that a person who prays in public is praying so that men can hear them and that they already have their reward. But they who pray in private, God will bless openly.
I'm all about God and what the book says. Once I saw what the book said, I realized that 99% of TV evangelists and churches don't teach what the book says. But, God has always had just a small scatterring of people throughout history that really understood it. Jesus himself said there would be many that would seek and few that would find it. There are MANY false teachers in the world. They are easy to see once you understand the book. So, we are on the same page somewhat.

Well this might turn out to be a long post, I'll try to shorten it as much as possible (damn thing is getting long with this prelimnary rambling already! lol!) Anyway, thing is I look around, look at my life, see the continuing unending struggle (in one form or another) and wonder: what's it all about? REALLY? I mean what's the purpose of our lives? Odd thing is I am a christian but sometimes I still don't get all the answers. I grew up in a well rounded christian home and I'm well acquainted with the bible. Thing is, what's the purpose of living this life, really? Why do we have to go thru all this hoopla and struggle to get to "heaven". And what is heaven anyway? A place with golden streets and mansions and no night and no tears and no hunger etc... But then I think to myself, why do u need mansions and stuff if we aren't going to be lseping and eating? I mean what's the purpose of houses here if not for basic human functions? And how can there be no tears? If not all r going to make it to heaven it presupposes that family members and dear friends will be going to the other side, are we then going to forget them? Is that good and just and proper in itself? And it just goes on...On the other hand, if there is no God and no after life then its even more totally messed up. I mean so what's the purpose? What's it all about? Millions of ppl spend their entire lives basically WORKING. Working to "enjoy" the "better" life, working so their kids can get a better future (which will probably be the kids in growing up and working just as hard to provide thier kids with the same). And what's enjoyment anyway? Physical pleasures (and not necessarilly just sex)? Sensual pleasures (psychological)? Success? What constitutes success? Financial gain? Contentment? And after it all we live 80 or 90 years, if we are lucky, probably spending the last 10-20years or more regretting past decisions, enduring debilitating health and the indecencies and psychological outrage that goes with it, and probably wishing to be dead and done with it already. And the finally die...then what? Memories in the minds of the living? Occassional flowers on ur grave, if u r lucky, which doesn't matter to u anyway? What next. If there's no heaven and hell, it S**ks and if there is, it doesn't make sense either. Ah, what the hell! Just "enjoy" life, right?

While you may be aquainted with the Bible, you don't have an understanding of it. I'll try to make this as short as possible. According to the Bible, when a believer dies now they go to the presence of The Lord in the 3rd heaven where god himself dwells. There are 3 heavens mentioned in the Bible. The atmosphere is the 1st heaven, Space is the 2nd heaven and then there is the 3rd heaven. Now, the Bible doesn't tell us what form we are in but it must be in spirit form. When Christ appears at his 2nd coming, we will receive new resurrected bodies like his own. We WILL eat. We WILL drink. God's kingdom will be setup on EARTH. An actual physical thing. Think about this... if God changed your body and made it so that your eye was perfect and you could see every spectrum in existance (we can only see 4 right now), you could spend eternity just LOOKING at things and being blown away. Suppose we could see music... or our ears were perfect and we could hear new notes we never heard before. The Bible says believers will rule WITH HIM in this Kingdom. It will be an active thing. you won't be floating around on some cloud strumming a harp. The Bible says we will command angels and judge the nations. The Bible says that God is the fountain head of all happiness. Anything you experience in this world is a small trickle from that fountain. Nothing will compare to just being in his presence. I mean, think of the prayer some people like to say over and over: Our father. Who art in heaven. Hollowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven....
Thats the prospect for believers. That was just a nutshell explanation. It isnt some spiritual float around existance we will have. THe Bible says we will have new bodies like Christs resurrected body and that his kingdom will be set up on earth. THere will be people here but those that are saved in this present age will rule and reign with him over these people. I have an I.Q. of 163, finished high school at the age of 16, speak five languages and have worked tooth and nail at three jobs and running my own business (7 days a week, 15-16 hr days everyday) since the day I graduated to learn what I have. The little girl needs to be with her mother, and the mother needs to be given a job with a decent salary. Taking the child from the mother and handing it to foster parents is simply compounding the child's trauma and future psychological problems.

What you listed above is sad, but is not proof that God does or does not exist. It is not possible to prove that one way or the other (thus it is called "faith" or "belief" and not "knowledge") War and hatred are brought about by people, not God. As for different religions, that too is a human construct. What if they are all a little right, and a lot wrong? In my opinion (for whatever that's worth) most organized religions only encourage separation (both from God and from anyone not of that religion.) Again I must apologize for being so long winded and I hope you are not offended.

ok, as best as i can in the proverbial 50(0!) words or less. Swamie and John and anyone else (including me :) who thinks like that is right. But since i think most people would agree, including the resisters once you have wrestled them to the floor, that religions main purpose, all religions, everywhere..... is to help people cope with insecurity. the ultimate insecurity being of course--- what comes after this corporal existence. but even leaving that aside, there's plenty of other and major insecurities before you get 'there'. because people didn't and don't throughout time know how to handle their insecurities, they devised beliefs, and beliefs became religion (in large areas of the world). (do i have most of a circle yet? can i wrap this?) so, give people an acceptable alternative to their religion, an alternative "belief", which will still help them to understand their insecurities, to understand THEMSELVES, and you are more than halfway there towards having truly healthy people who don't go around blaming others, 'praising god', and otherwise making things worse, not better. (doesn't matter whether they do that consciously or unconsciously). this alternative, or one of them, in this modern world (but there are plenty of historical examples as well) is introspection, often more successful if made hand in hand with psychology or similiar. i know i cut the corners off but i think i got it out there mostly. the major flaw in this or any similiar arguments is desire. if people DON'T WANT to leave their gods behind and move towards free standing independent healthyness then you can't force them. (notice how one of religions weaknesses is just that "forcing" so many of them feel to convert YOU) . i want to stop here but i'll say still yet, for those who feel it's too big of a leap, i could even imagine a universal god (for humans) who has been stripped of all the S**t people have stuck on it. the virgin births, the 72 virgins waiting for you in heaven, the endless reincarnations, and ALL the other crap that people have thought up. just a god. there for you when and how you need it and otherwise you're ok by yourself with your mostly healthy mind and others around you to support you on your journey. so, back to you john---- "and no religion too"

It is called acute post-partum depression, and post-partum depression is extremely painful for the mothers who have it. It can be treated, but must be detected at its onset (usually just after giving birth) so as to treat the mother and spare her baby from any danger. It is an illness, not a crime.

the guys who saved the little girl were shooting a commercial for television when they heard a strange noise. First they thought it was a cat inside the bag. And the baby didn´t drawned because God didn´t allowed. It was really unbelieveble!!!
