Al Jazeera has gained exclusive access to the Taliban in the north of Afghanistan as this report from Alan Fisher in Kabul makes clear. The Taliban has announced it is to launch a major offensive to coincide with the first day of Ramadan. Called Nasrat or victory, it is warning of an increase of suicide bombings, ambushes and attacks against the enemy. The offensive comes as the Taliban claims its gaining support outside its traditional southern strongholds. The group says it now has a foothold in Kapisa province, about 50km north of Kabul, and claims most of the district of Tagab is under its control. (more) (less)

    These are Afghans, They never sits in calm when ever there is an outside force in Afghanistan.The Moughals, British, USSR and now USA. This is a poor nation but they dont know the meaning of being rich (they have never felt such ever) so they are happy with what they got. and always ready to kick the enemy out.

    that since the fall of the communist regime the only political party close to bringing any semblence of peace to the country is the Taliban. A recent amnesty report said, under the Taliban a woman showing her ankle in a market would get told off, today in Kabul she would get raped by the Govt forces.

      Taliban are all local Afghans fighting with foreign troops, there is No Al-Qaida as we hear from media. if there are some, maybe a few of them which can’t be the reason to order all these,” over 100000 NATO forces”, to kick them out of there.

      If we look back to the history of Afghans and their wars then we can logically gauge, their independency and strength…I trust if Afghans get weapons like what NATO forces use on Taliban then Taliban will be the best and will kick all these strong forces from there.
      To my knowledge the only way to bring peace in Afghanistan is working with people and people just by talking not bullets. Because we know Afghans couldn’t be beaten by war.
