Kipkay Loses His Head! What Happened?

Kipkay is a turtle, he pulled his head into his body at the same time as the box was lowered.

Is this some kind of weird hack with a shoelace and a box of tictacs?

after watching this, I felt strangely compelled to go to kipkay.com. Do you always put subliminal messages in your videos?

When the glass is held vertical, i think somethingalong the lines of, an electrical current makes the glass take another colour or a video or photo of the wall or of whats behind him, its well thought, and very clever.

When the box is being lowered, You can clearly see that what is visible on the front of the box is a new static image. It wasn't mirrors and plastic and paper and a second box. The thing you see at the top of the box is not a second box but the back wall of the box showing because the whole box is tilted toward the front. It was just video editing that was used to paste an image on the front of the box which naturally covers whats behind. No science here, just technology. And no... This trick can not be done with a live audience with the tools Kipkay used for it...

i think he took 2 footages.. one with just the bg and one with him rasing the glass cube and w.e ... then using after effects you put the footage of the bg on top and then mask it and do all that .. and you end up with.. seemingly nothing visible..... atleast i think

Pause the video at 17-18 seconds. Then look at the corners of the box. You'll see three clips at each corner; where just before that time frame--when he was showing the box--it proved that there should only be two clips visible at 17-18 sec. Kipkay...answer me truthfully...does that have anything to do with it?

I think when he lifts it to put it over his head there is possibly a board the same color as the background that comes down,

In order to offer my guess.
1. The plexiglass cube is actually reflecting the surroundings, rather than what is inside.

2. The "brackets" were edited in to provide the illusion that the viewer is still seeing through the cube rather than a reflection.

Is there a flap on the box that is the same color as the background, or something you are pulling down that is above your head?
or 1 way glass, and an object of the same color as the background in front of you,and when you skew the box a tiny bit it reflects? All i can think of, hehe

the box has a mirror side on 3 sides if you look at the end of the vid you can se his head on three sides but not on one that how he can make the illusion becuase there is some glass that you can see thruogh but its a mirror on the other side. Kinda like the windows in skyscrapers

You laid the box in your lap simply to adjust your grip so you could turn the box square over your head. There is no trick during this portion of the video. In post production, you superimposed a empty shot of the cube over the real cube. You slid the superimposed image down at the same speed that you moved the box. The after effects of the old film effects mask the key effect. Yes?

He can bend his neck behind his back! when the box goes down he quickly folds his head backwards... yup ... thats it! But in reality when the box goes out of camera view he switches it with another box that has a image of his backround on that box and switches it back. Maybe with the help of a partner??? I dunno either that or hes not human! lol

...was actualy quite helpful. In the other video, when the cube was rotating, there was light reflected onto the ground FROM ONLY TWO of the panels. Now we just have to figure out what he did to the two 'abnormal' ones. Am I even remotely close with my abnormal panel theory?

You might have used polarized half silvered mirrors!

The glass box has a film similar to the what we put in our car windows. 3M and other plastic sunshade film maker has this one way mirrorized film.

you are not putting your head IN the box. It is behind the box. The refelection of the front and back combined mirror out your face behind the box.

I noticed at 23 seconds you can see at the top of the box what looks (i emphasize looks, i know theres only one box) like a double, or a second box poking out. You can tell because you can
1)See the "ghost" box
2)You can see a second set of brackets that hold the box together

Am I on the right track for having noticed this?

I think its an edit of some sort. When I played this video several times, the only think I notice out of the ordinary (besides a headless person) is when the box is lowered completely, he went too low. His shoulders where the box stops is gone too. The box is constructed of plexi glass which is see through. What else could have been done besides an edit of some sort? I also noticed after the box was lowered that the color of the box was the same as the wall. If not an edit, might be something to with the room he was in or his position in the room.

Is that the trick?

i was being an asshole in that last comment but im really sure i know what it is!! i think there is a peice of glass going diagonally through the glass box,or a mirror going through the box!!?!?!??!

but during the phase when KipKay is lowering it over his head, note that the metal corners don't change at all. They don't move relative to each other the way objects change in perspective. They are static.

anyone of us built this thing with four pieces of glass the way we see it will it work?

the cube acts sort of like a prism and when you put your head in there it takes the backround of the wall and reflects it to the front of the glass making it look like your head disappeared. I'm I right?

you may have found a way to make current pass through a transparent material to make it go opaque. that's some james bond type of stuff you got there. :D

The plastic reflects the wall by holding the box at a slight angle. Like a mirror. It does it through out the video. Did I get it? Did I get it?

One side of the box is special. You can see in the first part that when the light hits that side from the outside, it goes a little opaque. Then if you follow that side, that's the one he uses on his face. Polarization maybe? or refraction?

He stops and changes the glass(or paper) above his head....he does it twice..that is also the reason for making the video flashy, so no one detects the (frame) change.

it can be said with a fair amount of certainty that all kipkay's box is is a series of polarlized lenses with perpendicular polarity. do some research. light gets through when its vectors are realigned by the second or third filter. the light that would normally get through from objects in the center are not passed through the extra polarized lens, and are therefore lost.

is that it's like those doors they use that have an electrical current in the glass, when the current is off it's cloudy, when it's on it's clear. hmmmm.

AFX is a great piece of software. You can easily do such a thing within it. Did you use the program kip?

one of the sides of the box has a mirror, the room that Kipkay is in is all yellow, so when he puts the cube on his head and the side with the mirror on it faces the wall in the mirror its yellow. So basiccally the image of his "head" being gone is really just a reflection of the wall

anyone can do this with a pc and a camera.

being on a yellow backgreound with no variations in the colour and bad quality video.... it was easy to do that trick with any kind of yellow paper. you see he isn't showing us anything cool... normally they use this cube in front a wall with tiles at the very bottom wherehtey put osmething in or behind the cube and its it disappears but in kipkays case the cube goes down over his neck and on to his balck tshirt which also is not seen because of the yellow paper or wotever in the cube. kipkay very disappointed in this vid not ur style u could have done much betta

Combination of light placement/color and angle...the "glass" obviously reflects like a mirror when positioned correctly, wouldn't know the details though =)

At 18 seconds you see an abrupt change in color of the front panel.It looks like you have just pasted a static picture of the empty box,and just moved it at the same frame rate when you lower it.Thus the weird brackets not moving in perspective.It's a layer editing job!

Something has to pivot. The box seems handled in a way to allow a panel to fall back into place.

Just be he lowers it, you can see 6 brackets and when it's over his head, there is an extra left top bracket. I'm imagining that the front panel pivots on the bottom and the top falls back to allow an overriding reflection to cover his face.

But I'm not convinced since it seems like the panel would lay pretty far back and leave little room for his head. That panel above the panel when it's all the way down is an interesting visual to sort out.

you are lowering the box just in front of your face on angle so we cant see your face due to the reflection.

When freeze framed on 18 seconds why does there appear to be three sets of "L" brackets on the left and right side of the box. As he continues to bring the box down and tilts it slightly towards the floor the bottom bracket is covered by the front of the box and only two brackets remain appearing as though there is two corner bracket on the front and two on the back. This implies that there is a static image on the front of the box. Which means there was some editing done. Kip was this done in a single take or did you have to do several to perfect the illusion??

this is a tough one. I really don't know how you're doing this, but to me it seems as if you weren't putting your head into the box at all. Looks as if your head was behind the hole box!? Still... no idea how that works...

You took a picture (or perhaps a film sequence) of yourself holding the box in front of the wall, then you used a video editing program to put that image in front of the box which actually shows your face inside. This would explain why at times the box seems to have more than four metal corners, and seems to have two upper edges for a few seconds. Yup...

Inside are Mirrors ( 2 Way Mirror ). Inside, There are no lights. And since There are no lights in there you cannot see what is inside. When Something Is Put in it you cannot see it.... Its just a little Guess.

His head is actually going behind the cube and not into it. It's reflecting the wall in front of him which is identical to the wall behind him. Since his head is behind the cube you have 2 panes of glass/plastic as a reflective barrier in front. I think maybe the angle of the light source also plays a part. At any rate, I don't think the cube is a trick cube. I think it's all angles and light?

based on the camera angle, and the angle of the box, the plexiglass is projecting what is entering the back seem of the right and left sides onto/through the front side. You can also faintly see the outline of Kip's head in the front panel.

push on the sides of the box to bend the front and back panal, reflecting the wall onto the front panal.

It 's a clear "cube" that has an "X" or a 'single pane' of clear plexiglass in the middle of it. When you tilt it at an angle, it reflects the light and makes it look like it is passing straight through.

does a certain type of paper, stick to the plexi glass because of the static cling that plexi glass has when it is rubbed before doing this trick?

ok so i can clearly see something non-transparent with 4 black thingies that create an illusion of a box added in front of the real cube, its added and removed exactly when the video jumps, soo i guess video editing. probably a photo of an empty cube pasted on top of the real one. and.... you can see the real cube behind =)

on the old video I noticed, before the camera zoomed in, you can see a small smudge of light disapears too (near the center). Could it be that there was somthing switched before the camera zoomed in??

1: The construction of the box or the thickness of the material may have somthing to do with it or...
2: Just before the box was lowered over his head, there was a split second where the box changes from a clear to yellowish tint to match the wall color.
Its very difficult to tell how because in the old video, the box is next to a wall where all matches and the old video effect is not there.

The way he's holding it, it's showing a reflection of the wall, and for some reason, not he's head. I've seen this a lot before in person. Can't explain it, but it has to do with the angle the plastic (or whatever that box is made of) is at. Like, it's reflecting the walls a lot more than usual, and the reflection is preventing you from seeing Kipkay.

The brackets just hold the pieces of glass together. The trick is that the mirrors absorb the light opposed to reflecting it. It stays inside the same area as Kipkay's head, but do not show the image to the viewers. It's the same way pigments work with seeing colors.

it's either when he lifts the box over his head and out of the screen he switches boxes orr it has suttin to do with the fact the box isn't over his head it's in front of his face....

with coins. There are some cubes made by glass and a hole on it for coins. Whenever u put a coin in, although the cube is totally transparent, u cant see the coin fallind inside the cube. In those cubes there is diagonal (if this the right english word) piece of glass which is not visible and prevents from seeing the coin falling in the cube. I suppose it's something similar.

I think that the room is cold and you exhale when the box goes over you head, then it turns white fronm the condensation and goes clear again when you remove it. Just a guess.

When he raises the box on 17 second, the yellow paper is attached to one side of the box. After he is done hiding his head, he raises his box again and on 26-27 second paper is removed (by stop frame with someone helping, or just quick hands)

Notice on second 18-19 on the right lower corner of the box, you can see 3 clips that hold the glass sides together, when there suppose to be only 2! back and front! the third one is drawn on the yellow paper.

the reason why subliminal messages are subliminal is that you cant perceive it with your senses. and thus, if you cant perceive it, how would you be affected by it. also, if you can see it flashing, its not subliminal
