    The Saleen sucks. "A spectacular feat of american engineering"

    How about British Engineering? The Ford(only in name) RS200 Evo: 2.1 litre, 4-cylinder, single turbocharged Cosworth engine. 0-60 in 1.8 seconds, and runs on to 206mph. That is a feat of precision engineering.
    The Bugatti was purely done as a laugh to see if it can be done. VW make a 5 million Euro deficit on every veyron they sell.
    The Saleen is just America's attempt at beating he Europeans.

    I mean look at history:
    The XJ220, PROVED to be the fastest road car in the world at the time. Then the Americans release a pushrod V8 CLAIMED to be faster.

    The McLaren F1, PROVED to be the fastest road car in the world at the time. The Americans release some other car CLAIMED to be faster.

    The Veyron. PROVED to currently be the fastest car in the world. Ah yes, CLAIMS of the Saleen bettering it.
    Just give up, Americans can't build cars.

      Koennigsegg CCX the fastest car in the world now? I read on Google that its fastest speed is 409.something kph. The Bugatti Veyron only gets 407.something kph. BUT, if you watch the Bugatti on youtube, it still has the possibility to go faster.

      I detect bitterness...
      1st of all fastest car in the world hasn't been good American in the market for quite some time. We adore acceleration and respect speed. therefore the big three (chrysler, ford and gm) probably don't feel the urge to spend the millions in development like European companies.
      2nd until the fastest street legal car in the world (as far as I know) is the 1988 Callaway sledgehammer which went at least 254 mph before speed no longer registered on the speedometer

      Whether or not the Saleen is the fastest is irrelevant. It is by far the better looking of the three cars in question. The Bugatti has issues with its grille and the Evo??? What can you say about a car that looks like a dressed-up Escort? Not to mention the fact that it's not even available for sale. And the Bugatti at a mere 1.7 million. The Saleen seems like a steal of a deal at $555,000. I guess looks outweigh performance in my book.

      The Saleen is one UGLY piece. Everything on it looks like an afterthought. The rear overhang is horrendous. It just doesn't mesh together well. And @ the end of the day it's a Ford. Friends don't let friends drive Fords.

    • The problem with the 1001bhp

      is that is is extremely heavy. The Koenigsegg CCX only has 850bhp yet did about 20km/h less that the Veyron, and the CCX was tested on a ring, whereas the Veyron was tested on a 5 mile straight. The CCX also costs only 550,000 euros. Beat that Bugatti. Let's wait for the CCXR to be tested, and hope they do it on a stright track.

      heres a bit of information: the SSC Ultimate Aero (an AMERICAN car) pumps 1180 hp and 1094 lbft torque out of a V8. dont think thats good engineering? well if they add a spoiler to get the downforce, the car can go 280 mph. once they put that spoiler on and start production i hope youll shut the hell up about american cars.

      ...Saleen was ever concocted, an Italian rally car, Lancia Delta S4 was hitting 0-60 in 2.8 or 2.7 sec. And it came with the 4 cylinder 1.8 engine turo AND supercharged by Abarth engine gurus. Now we praise 1.4 Twincharger by Volkswagen with the same idea, which appeared 20 years later. New is not always better then old.

      but you really cant compair the two. i admit that it is impressive that it did that on such a small engine, but i highly doubt that it is a good car for daily use. It was also made before all the emissions regulations and safty standards.

      It is not fair, I agree. I also believe Saleen and Bugatti are in different niches - the latter is a show-off Volkswagen with "sporty" looks and staggering BHPs. Re. the sound - tastes differ. Though I also like huge American V8 bellowing on the streets - so rare in Eastern Europe.

    Is the fastest production series car at this time: 254.19mph/414 kmh, faster than Bugatti Veyron, faster than Koenigsegg CCX or CCXR, faster than Enzo Ferrari, faster than Mclaren F1. But Bugatti Veyron looks way better than SSC, and my favourite is Mclaren F1. Forza Steaua!!!

The most exspensive car is the porsh carrera gt 07 and the fastest road car (Production Car) Is indeed the McLaren F1... And it still is wat like over a decade later... Just type in Top Gear in the search engine and you will eventually find the video were it shows it beats the Bugattia and the Porsh and Zomba or something like that idk much about that last car...     Top speed doesn't mean anything anymore. Give any car big turbo's and it will go fast . The Buggati has 16 cylinders and 4 turbos and it only does 250. The McLaren with only 627HP does 241 mph. The Koenigsegg CCR has 806 HP and can go 242 mph. They trie and hype up the Buggati like it's an amazing achievement 1000HP and 250mph . These supercars would kick the Buggati's ass in a race. Not to mention the Enzo, the Carrera GT, and the Zonda. This car had more pottenttial.

    The reason the top speed is estimated is due to the restriction, as you said, but the reason for this restriction is down to the tyres. They had to get them specially made to take 250mph, so critiscising it for having an estimated top speed of 279mph is just stupid. The car is built in excess of todays tyre technology.

    And in terms of not seeing it on a track, its because its not a track car! They do not put leather seats, soundproofing, cd players... in race cars. Its designed to be a tourer and nothing more. Volkswagen made the car purely to see if it could be done. Yes it is capable of going round a track a damn sight better than your average sports car, but the top enders would beat it.

    And in terms of Jeremy Clarkson. the man is a legend. He may be opinionated like you say, but who says they are bad opinions. And he doesn't claim to be an expert at racing. Thats why he's so popular, because neither are 99% of the population. Will people please stop criticise things they do not understand. Do some bloody research.

      The Veyron is limited to 280 mph but could go faster if it's engine wasn't restricted. You don't get into 7th gear until you are doing 230 mph. Flat out, the Veyron will empty it's fuel tank in 12 mins!!!
      VW made 15 of these and sell them for £850,000 but each one costs £5,000,000 to make. Fantastic car and clip. Top gear is the best programme on TV in the UK!

      It has an ESTIMATED!, thats an ESTIMATED! speed of 279mph. It has an electronic limiter that lets it only go to 250mph. Kinda weird, they say its got all this power but NO video of anyone actually testing it on the roads, might not be as perfect as there saying.

    Let the angry little schoolchildren make whatever claims they wish to make. This car is governed at 253 mph. It can do it rather quickly, easily, and drama-free. Let Hennessey, Lingenfelter, and Saleen (ha!) say what they will. Nobody, apart from the PR departments of said companies, has ever seen a car go faster than this one. For sad little men with tiny penises and big bank accounts, there isn't a faster tool with which to get into the panties of shallow, gold-digging, worthless bitches with fake EVERYTHING.
