Over the years, men took over, as each jump from a level to the next meant their step up in the community hierarchy, eventually leading to a chiefly role. yingge is correct, Indonesia and Vanautu are miles apart. they don't even share a regional grouping. kiwi2244 is living in the past and muddled up his/her geography; both Fiji and Vanuatu are of the Melanesian group of islands(regional grouping). both are independent countries. but more than 2 decades ago both were under the Commonwealth government of UK.

have visited the place (Vanuatu) and stayed for quiet a time. but haven't got the chance to visit where the ritual is being performed. only in one of the islands (Pentecost Island) comprising vanuatu. But lately, accidents and deaths had happened during the events as these were perfomed out-of-season and because of tourism demand.5656332
