Hack PC Speed

  • slow computer

Yes it makes bigger room for more programs to run and files to open but NO it doesn't speed up computer, it slows it down since it's using the HD which is much slower than RAM for virtual memory.

The Hard disk is not fast like the RAM memory!!! FOOLS

best way to speed up the page file is to put the pagefile on it's own partition. I usually make it about the same size as the pagefile. that way, it'll never become fragmented. for example, I have 2 gigs of RAM. I made a pagefile that is 3 gigs big and put it on a partition that is about 3.1 gigs big. pc runs great.

    • not true

that doesn't work either. the pagefile should be on its own harddrive and not the same harddrive that your OS is installed on to get the best performance from tweaking your pagefile. Also for optimum performance make your pagefile 2.5 times larger than the total physical amount of RAM you have installed.

  • it works but

it might allow you to use more programs at the same time but it dosen't speed up your computer I tried itt a lot of times when I discovered it an year ago all it did was take my hdd space

    • However

Your right, all it does is allow more multitasking, but a double whammy is that hard drives only have so many cycles before being burnt out, you can destroy your hard drive using virtual ram on XP. its suggested you only use hardware RAM since thats made to last.

    • Yeah,

      It's right!

this works i tried it it isnt like if u had 10gb of ram because it is using your hard disk and its not that fast if you put 10gb it would be like if u used 6-7 but it will take your hard disk space so dont try it it doesnt worth it!

  • What a joke !

" Hack " your pc speed, just no !! your just telling it to use more of your hdd as ram... But hdd are actually much slower then ram and so this does not give any real performance increase. It may help with multitasking but nothing else.

  • page size

this will make your computer run slower, as said for lots of times.

however, if you want to increase the page file size, at least defragment the hard disk first.

    why slower ?

page file is stored on harddisk. access to a memory address in physical ram is really fast. hard disks are slow, seek times are really long. also, virtual memory addresses are loaded into ram, deleted, loaded, deleted again and again, which takes too much time.

plus, lets say you set the page file to 10GB and got 2 GB physical ram.
if you just need to use 3 GB ram, 2 GB physical, plus 1 GB virtual, it means 9GB waste of space of harddisk.

it is better to keep the settings in default in windows environment.

  • you people are half morons

if you are running a 32 bit operating system you can't address over 4 gigs of TOTAL system memory anyway rendering this video totally pointless... its most likely that 95% of the people reading this are using a 32 bit os...

  • This is a HACK !!!

In the ture sense of the word 'HACK'
If you want to speed up your computer buy more memory. Do not attempt to do this unless you have an old and spare ide drive and a spare ide channel (expensive solution).
    HARDWARE memory (Cheaper option)

  • Don't overdue it!!!

I bumped mine up by 1,000 MB in each column, so far it seems pretty nice for multi-tasking with 3+ tabs open at the same time.

  • It won't speed up a bit.

That won't speed up your computer at all. It will, however, add capacity to run many more tasks at the same time, however they may run SLOWER. Because the parts of programs that don't fit into your ram will keep swapping to and from the hard drive.

it works but it cuts ur disk space although a nice trick, i thought everyone knew it.

  • Virtual RAM...

allows you to function as if you have more RAM than you actually do. This lets you either run more applications at once, or to run larger applications than you would without it. Also, virtual RAM allows you to open applications quicker because of the file mapping.

  • no..

when ur pc page file.. ur pc uses ur hdd as a temporary RAM.. but imagine ure using ur hdd for two tasks?.. it just makes ur pc slower.. i recommend not to "page file" and that makes ur pc faster... i tried it before.. the only cons is when you run apps which takes too big of ur ram space, example, u have a 512MB ram then u run photoshop then some more apps and maybe antivirus running or if not, some viruses running, u may lack in memory then some errors would occur cuz ur ram can't handle it.. but the point is it runs faster when you don't page file to ur hdd.. just add more REAL MEMORIES and NOT VIRTUAL to ur pc... its better...

this does work as long as you dont push it up to high....do some research instead of just looking at other peoples comments you dumbass's!

    • haha

      this applies to me.
if i cant find good answers on comments though i usually google it and check it out a little.

i learned about this while talkin to a tech support guy once, he never told me what it did exactly but now i know.

    • "Tards"? ... have a mirror

First, you DO use your HDD for page file. Second, this puts undue stresses on your drive (remember the reader head is only good for so high a MTBF... think bounces in a life cycle) so while your programs are seeking all over your drive, the head is having to bounce to a set location over and over to store data temporarily... how do you figure this process would speed your computer up. Lastly, as others said before me. HDD seek times are much MUCH slower than your bus speeds on your RAM. Try researching that once if you doubt it. Changing the virtual memory size is best for short term emergency situations (like a blown stick of ram but you were in the middle of something... pulling that stick and setting your VMem to fill the gap gets you by)
