Emptying the prefetch folder can have a noticable increase in windows xp/vista performance. This folder often fill up with out dated and expired content that is no longer needed by the processor or operating system.

My Computer
C;
Windows
Prefetch
and delete all the files in there

or type this in the explorer bar
C:WINDOWSPrefetch
and delete eveything in this file
