    yu hai is considered a mantis master by most traditional and wushu masters. i have personally studied under several nothern and southern wushu and traditional masters. some of the most famous in the world. this form is not wushu. yu hai is an amazing fighter and possibly one of the best fighters whos ever lived. watch "tai chi 2", "tai chi master(2006)", or "martial arts of shaolin" etc.. all starring him. this is the best mantis form ever recorded. look closely at all the breaks and strikes. anyone who doesnt think this form is amazing, no offense, but doesnt know much about martial arts. i am certified karate instructor and kungfu instructor.

      I agree with you, this guy is pretty loose with his stances and form. I've never taken any Chinese martial arts, but I hope to some time in the future.

      to elaborate on that. the form combines elements of traditional kung fu and wushu. it is not a traditional form, but it is also not the wushu mantis form.

      my fault. I've put this wrong. Yu Hai's mantis is not entirely clear. He was a student of Lin Jingshan for some time but master Lin did not pass the whole art onto Yu. I also heard that Yu Hai is the founder of so called "sport mantis". That would be correct if one looks at his exhibition. However, this is very beautiful form and it was my damn fault that I said what I wanted in a wrong way. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

      I think your friend (like most americans) got her black belt from a lowsy instructor who practically sold it to her never minding her technical quality. Im sure that all real preying mantis advanced students can perform similar to what is displayed here.

      Yu Hai, is grand master of Northern style praying mantis and has probably been pranticing since the age of five. If you put in 3 to 5 ours a day of practice for the next 15 years then you just might fool people into thinking your as good when doing a kata of this style.

      That is a pretty objective view and has nothing to do with hate. I practically gave up on learning martial arts when I turned 13 after every Dojo I went to charged rediculous money for little to know progress in my part at all. I grew up in Southern Cali btw but I've heard horror stories like this all over the states. Frankly, American knows Americans love martial arts so they are doing their part by cashing in on the genre.

      This guy is a nice wushu performer. It looks pretty but it's not real mantis kungfu. Always make a distinction between wushu and kungfu. They are not the same. Besides, mos of the best mantis masters in the world don't consider Yu Hai as mantis expert.

      This particaulr style is from the Northern mantis branch of this form of martial arts. Very different from the southern style praying mantis. Yu Hai is the patriach and grand master of one of the branch that teaches this style of praying mantis. There are always those that belittle others in order to raise there own profile. Who do you know personally who is consider the best in the praying mantis stlye? Yu Hai is recognise by China to be good enough to represent the country as a ambassador to display his skill all over the world. Who do you represent ? Do you show your skills to 5 year old kids in the local school and pretend to be an expert in praying mantis?
