This video shows you an in-depth look at my latest high-powered red laser I've constructed. If you have any questions on how to construct one of your own, feel free to contact me or post a comment with your question.
which metal gear flashlight I am supposed to get, can you tell me if it is the L.E.D. one that target currently sells. and if it is, is it the small one, 45 lumens, or the big one, about 120 lumens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By MarioK20 1194567728 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell unfortunately I don't remember the exact lumen. I know it wasn't an L.E.D. flashlight because the light that I took out did not look like an L.E.D.
By Dandeman321 1194605971 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehow many watts the flashlight is?
If not, how many and what type of batteries does it use?
Not sure on the wattage either.... But what it takes 3 AAA batteries. And when you remover the light bulb and test it with a multimeter or voltmeter it gives you 3v, which is what the diode needs
By Dandeman321 1194642678 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyou have helped a lot
By MarioK20 1194825677 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere can i find a diode, how it looks like?
By Pantera* 1193241520 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt looks like this: laser66.com/ html/ diode% 20big.jpg
And a friend of mine sells these here but he's currently out at this website.

By Dandeman321 1193248958 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeme some more about this....
were can i find a flashlight like that to modify and can i just take a laser diode out of an old computer?
also what is a driver circuit and where might one find one
I would recommend a dorcey metal gear flashlight like I have. There's plenty of room and it's very easy to get the bulb out. The diode has to be from a dvd burner, a 16X Dual Layer or better. If it isn't 16X or higher it won't be powerful enough to burn stuff and ignite matches. If you look below I posted where you can get most of the parts.
By Dandeman321 1192679070 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removethe diode in a DVD burner wont work, they have there own driver circuits, and if it was powerfull to light a match at 2-3 feet it would melt the dvd, i think the diode is a one out of a laser pointer, 50mw or higher [i have a green 50mw laser pointer that runs on 3 AAA's [from ebay]]
By MFSInc 1198454578 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe drive does have a driver circuit for the laser diode but it doesn't melt the dvd. It uses various voltages and currents in order to write data on two different levels of the dvd. The bottom of the dvd is also covered in a reflective material, not black. If the bottom was black, then it may burn the dvd since the color black absorbs all the light the laser is putting out.
By Dandeman321 1198514483 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei will have to disasemble a 16X DVD burner and try it
:)
is better...
By im2short2die 1192485529 Reply Spam [+1] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIt isn't. His maglite does not have a regulating circuit in it. Therefore, his laser diode that he spent $50 bucks on, is gunna burn out a lot quicker. My diode that I used for Kipkay's design blew out within a few days. So that was $60 bucks down the hole, since that how much the drive cost me.
By Dandeman321 1192494741 Reply Spam [+3] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removegood day dandeman321
i like your stuff its cool
may i know the diode that you used so that i can make some too. thanks
Dont see an email address to send request to. Thanks

By crazygamer8451 1206474096 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei have this flashlight and i measured around 600-750mA going to the LED and before i install one of my few precious 16x diodes i want to make sure it isn't going to fry. Because i was under the impression the recommended mA for these 16X diodes is 250mA with (around) 3 volts. Am i correct with these figures? because i want a long lasting burning laser not a 15 minute burning diode execution! thanks for the help mate! (of course i don't plan on running it continuously for 15mn! I'm assuming it has a 30-60 second duty cycle?)
thanks!
what can i use instead of a aixiz housing?
how can i built a regulating circuit?
There is nothing that I know of to replace that at the moment, sorry. As for the regulating circuit, There is a link that tells you everything you need to know but I can't post it. I'll send it to you in a msg.
By Dandeman321 1199468450 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveVery cool idea and thx for all the extra help... 5 stars for sharing with us.
By DaveD71 1198188788 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveSo i took your advice and picked up the dorcy metal gear, installed the 16x diode and it works...very bright but doesnt burn anything why is that ???? how does it work but not burn ??????
By emandreg017 1198112558 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removei have the same flashlight but the top doesn't screw off help me plz
By xXxMinionxXx 1198107321 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelol you have the right one...i bought one off ebay and the top wouldnt come off either you have to take two pairs of channel locks on the top and body of the flashlight to get it off...
By emandreg017 1198112709 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removewhere are they and what do they look like? thx for the reply
By xXxMinionxXx 1198121817 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removechannel locks are like pliers you can use those or two huge cresent wrenches. either way you have to take one and grip it on the cap and take another pair and grip them on the middle of the flashlight.. then lefty loosey righty tighty lol... it might take a little muscle but it will come off and it wont break .
By emandreg017 1198128130 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removetaech me hw to build 1 please
By levronemaximus 1196005797 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removedid you use an aixiz laser housing like for the mini-maglite mod? if not what'd you use?
and second, the big one:
would this work for a blu-ray diode?
Yes I did use a aixiz housing. I am not completely certain if a blu-ray diode would work. This site
laserpointerforums .com
will be able to answer that for you though. Remove the space in between the .com and the laserpointforums
thanks, awesome mod by the way, as soon as i get some time i'm going to try it, and depending on what everyone at laser pointer forums says, i might try it with a blu ray diode
