When playing a movies on Windows Media Player error is often seen that codec required to play the audio/video file is missing. Even an update to the latest version of Windows Media Player produces similar results with quite a few video formats. If VLC had its way these errors would be a thing of the past. In fact I have been able to play any and all kinds of video with VLC - from mp3 to ogg and from avi, wmv to dvd's. Check out the full feature list on their site. The only place VLC falls short is playing video/audio inside the browser which windows media player and Real Player are adept at. You can learn more about VLC and download VLC completely free of charge or any subscription service.
